The is a 72 maverick down the road for 4.5k. I was just wondering how you guys felt about that price. Interior is decent although not important becuase i will probably just put two recaro seats in it. Needs paint for sure. And it needs disk brakes on all fours. Also a question. Do parts from mustangs fit mavericks? And if so what years of mustangs? I have also heard that since mavericks dont have frames they do not do well with high rates of aceleration such as a 4500 rpm launch from the starting line? Is this true? Just lookin for some info. Thanks, Andrew.
:Handshake without pics. it's hard to say about the price... some ...mustang...parts fit... look around this site for pics., we have a few with cars on the rear bumper...enyoy ......
if the interior is not perfect and the paint is not perfect and it needs brakes all around, there is no way that they car is worth $4500 bucks take some piics.. post them up here or on photobucket for us to look at and then we can tell you how many cars have your purchased in your day? seasoned? rookie? how old are you? you will need ammo to buy a car, ask the seller all the specs on the car as they know them to be and post it up here for us to read
Welcome to the forum! Randy just posted about this yesterday about one that is For Sale in Oklahoma. http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=32062
Re: I wish to get a Maverick Hi Andrew, Let me welcome you to the board! In my opinion, $4500 should get you a pretty clean Maverick! I wouldn't pay that much for the car you seem to be describing - but I'm a cheap son of a gun!!! I paid $900 for my '73 Maverick in July, 2002. It was in fairly good shape - no rust to speak of, the original paint was in pretty good shape - it had several minor and a couple of major dents and dings. The upholstery was pretty much shot. The engine had oil in the cooling system, and a very leaky power steering system. I admit that Mavericks and Comets are getting harder to find, and this would tend to drive prices up - along with all of the outrageous prices being paid at classic car auctions these days. It won't be long before pre-1974 vehicles are beyond the means of the average Joe. There are some Mustang parts that fit Mavericks. For example, I just bought a front suspension rebuild kit (and tie rod ends) from American Pony Parts. If I remember correctly, these kits are for a '71 - '73 Mustang. Also, drivetrain parts are easy to find, since the engines, transmissions, rear axles, brakes, starters, etc. are common to many Fords of that era - and even up to 1979 or so. Many replacement parts are still available at Kragen/Checker/Pep Boys/Autozone/Napa. Autokrafters has a nice catalog of Maverick/Comet - only body & interior parts. The unibody structure of the Maverick/Comet can be reinforced with subframe connectors and a monte carlo bar between the front spring towers. This is the same type of structure used on Falcons, Mustangs, Fairmonts, etc. - and almost every car built today. Certainly computer modeling has allowed manufacturers to design much stronger, stiffer unibody structures. The folks on this forum can provide a wealth of information on how to repair and improve the Maverick/Comet that you end up buying - so, ask away! I also recommend the Ford Six Performance Forum - in case you end up buying a Mav/Comet with a straight six engine. There are guys running six cylinder Mavs/Comets/Mustangs/Falcons/etc. that will give the bent 8 guys a run for their money! Kindest regards, BaldEagleMav
Just my .02 cents but I just bought the maverick in my avatar for $4500 and it is pretty Cherry. It's not a Grabber and it is and I6 not a V8 but the engine , tranny and some other stuff has been overhauled and the interior is immaculant. So decide if it being a Grabber is worth that much more to you and go from there. But from what you described there's no way I would pay that much for it. But like someone above said I am kind of a cheap skate too. I waited 10 year or more waiting for the right maverick for the right price. BTW if you want to get an Idea of what Mavericks are selling for do a search on EBAY and list the search Highest price first.
Some things to keep in mind, how far would you have to go to get a mav in better shape for the same price.. how much woudl it cost to bring it back home? those are considerations too. Around Central Iowa Have not seen even one other 2 door Comet of any year ( thats what I have) I paid $750 for mine 10 years ago, it has 72k original miles, the seller thought it needed a tranny rebuild, and it had a short in the ignition. Mine is better than most midwest cars of this type, has a couple of smallish holes into the trunk, both fenders are rusted in the lower corners, but over all very solid, interior has seems pulled on the drivers side but other wise pretty good, Mine has a bench seat. Things , Buckets, Grabber, Stallion, Sprint, 302 would all add to value I believe. But the location and availability In Your area will determine price too. But in my opinion seems like formt eh sounds of it price might be at least a little bit high.
For $4500, it'd better have a decent paint-job and good brakes. All you need for frame strength is sub-frame connectors. Many of us have them on our Mavericks/Comets...
Andrew, Prices are prices if it is something you really want and money is no object get it but on the other hand make sure you are not getting screwed. I got my 76 comet for 350. With any car that old it does have some rust. But nothing to dramatic. It has an I6 that has been overhauled and runs great. There were two things wrong with it the brake and blinkers didnt work and the gas tank was rusted out. I got a signal switch, fixed the problem. Im currently putting a 66 mustang gas tank on it. With that there are modifications to consider. I still have some minor things to add and replace. But the people on here help out a lot and have had everything I have asked for. Good luck I hope you join the team and get yourself a mav or a comet. Robert
