To start, want to congratulat Rick Book on some good numbers he posted. Also sorry to hear Don Graham lost an engine, and Rick's electrical gremlins. Anyway's, started out Saturday night TNT with the new glide in the fearmont. Had no idea what it was going to do compared to the c4. Especially with the 5000 converter compared to the old 4200 in the three speed. First pass had a .664 light and ran the 1000ft at 8.80, was a bit disappointed but vowed to get it right. Now we have a ton of street racers and some outlaw cars running so the wait is long. Finally get to try the right lane and get a .590 light and when banging the pro-stick into high gear, got into some fluid and the ass end starts to come around, pedal it and get it straight before crossing the center line. Had to pedal it again to get straight again and said to hell with this and coasted thru at 8.85. Decided to call it a night and wait for time trial's Sunday.

Mavman has not been in his car for three week's but I know his talent and desire to win will still be there when he straps in. Track is clean and prepped after the Sat. fiasco, so I try the Mont again. Change launch rpm's and have a .560 light and run it out to a 8.55 et. 60ft is 1.42. Is about the same as always, Second time trial is exactly the same except at 1/8th the engine kind of falls down and pick's up again, look at the tach and it not pulling the 7100 that it has been. OOP'S, smoke coming in the cockpit and smell's funny. Reach up and hit all the switches off, coast to the exit road and now I see flame under the cowl scoop. Pull off the side at the et building and jump out and get the hood open. Time slip fellow shoots one small shot with the extinguisher and it is out.

Look for fuel leak at the flying toilet bowl but discover the oil pressure gage line has broken and sprayed oil down the throttle body and then ignited on the header's. Todd come's with the four wheeler and tow's me back to the pit's. Have spare stuff to fix it and add only a half qt. of oil to get it to the full mark again. Start's fine and has 70 lbs of pressure as always. Try to calm the mind to get focused again and got to the last time trial. Run another 8.55, elimination rd. #1, I dial in an 8.57 and put a .540 on a camaro and he has a .589 and dialed a 9.45. Catch him at the .660 and stay about half a fender in front till we reach the finish line and then lift on him. Run an 8.58 and get the win.

#2 rd. I leave the 8.57 on the dial board and guess who I draw, yep, it is the mavman and the mighty Maverick. Damn, running out of the same stable makes it frustrating, but by damn I am determined to win the race. .516 light and run him out the backdoor with his .540. I run another 8.58 and he breaks out 7.86 on a 7.87. Nothing said back in the pit's either way, just trying to stay focused on the next race. #3, I have trouble in the burnout box, lack of water, and the Mont twist out of shape. Try again same thing, get mad and do a John Force burn thru. Try to stage as always but the water deal has me out of focus and bing goe's the big red bulb.

Todd march's on to take out all comer's and win, maybe it was for revenge, losing to me?? The rent a Stang in our little "BACKYARD MOTORSPORTS' racing team, goes to the quarter finals. All in all the Ford's did some serious ass kicking and we all had lot's of fun.

    Missing my old '70 Maverick
Thanks for the well wishes and giving us your update.

Looks like we both had a 'little fire put under us' this weekend.

Before I loaded the Maverick up to take it to FFW, I decided to find this intermittent miss that I thought was another loose ground. Turns out the + terminal on my alternator arced to my fuel line (braided steel) - burned a hole through the rubber line and then 50 psi of fuel shoots every where.

I shut everything down, run like a r**ed ape and push the Emergency Kill switch. Luckily I'd put the water hose near the car (and had an extinguisher also near by).

I was able to put the fire out with the water hose fairly quickly and keep other 'stuff' cool.

I only had to replace one wire and one split loom, but it sure made for an exciting start for the weekend.

Me and fire have a looong history. It's a love/hate relationship. It loves me - I hate it.

    Thanks again.

Holy Crap Rick, when it rains it pours, or something like that. On a brighter note, forgot to mention that there was a 75 Maverick pure stock looking, from Oklahoma, at the track yesterday. He puts a 10.43 dial on the window and proceeds to race in "Super/Pro" running 1/8th mile. Foot braking it and all, he gets five and six second handicap starts on the bad boys with the dragsters and 700hp door cars. They had to sit there so long, it thru their electonic starts and such off. The little red Mav went three or four rounds before going out. Who say's you can't do good with the grocery getter in bracket racin.

always good to hear about the races. congratulations to todd on his win. i lost the engine at the second race. this last race was the fifth one. i also found that the crank was cracked so the crank, balancer and flexplate are at the machine shop as of today. old motor isn't running too bad so i may leave it in there for a while. currently i'm 3rd in points at firebird and 15th at tucson after missing 2 out of 5 races. not too bad. i'm still having fun.:)

Rick, no transbrake allowed in footbrake. No electronics, period...at least not in our class. I had to install a plug for my 2 step, TB, and delay box so I could take it all out to run footbrake. Besides, I think footbrake is more fun anyway. Box racing is almost boring, IMO. It all boils down to who has the best light...well...same holds true in footbrake but at least there is a little lee-way either way with footbrake class. I've won with worse lights by running on the dial, but you won't do that very often in a "box" class! Our footbrake class doesn't even allow a air/electric shifter. NO electronics at all. 2 steps are OK for a manual transmission car though.

Now I'm looking forward to the $5k/win No/Electronics meltdown race June 17. Should be a ton of cars there!
