    Man, that ain't no soapbox...

I got a story that is just as long..But I'll try to keep it short.

I started w/ a 427 Maverick on nitrous. 9 sec street car was the goal. Um, no headers, and a turbo was faster. But I did research this front suspension up, down, and sideways...

If you notched them that much, your upper A arm mount would still be an obstacle. But it looks like you fixed that by running your pipes up. I am not sure, but my guess is that plugs are gonna be very tough. If you do the type of notch that you originally planned, you can do a solid upper shock mount w/ a heim joint or poly lined/teflon lined heim joint. I have a picture. Or you can use a QA-1 coilover that is made for a GM car. It has an upside down, conical style spring. So the wide part of the coilover spring is on the top, and it will sit against your stock, widened, spring seat. All you have to do to use that is fab or buy the lower mount that allows it to bolt to the stock upper. MMR racecars in Maryland makes the piece, but it looks easy to fab. I have a picture.

Erick-Mav has a basically stock bodied Maverick, with 400+ rwhp and he runs 10.90's all day long. If you are going to have a stock bodied Maverick w/ 550+ hp, you can drive that anywhere you choose, and still run 10's. If it is setup right.

BTW, are you going blow thru?:thumbs2:

    Ok...the latest pics...

The first pic is the impliments of destruction. The next one is after cutting. Then I removed the tower. And put it back in where I think it's going to go. Any opinions?

Yep, this is going to be blow through. But the damage is already done, although thanks for the input. Let the welding begin! Oh and as far as the upper a-arm is concerned, I'm doing the shelby drop to gain the needed clearance. (You are correct in assuming that's why I ran the pipes up and not down.)

    In the last pic...

have you checked for clearance of the upper a arm as it moves up???

I can see in the picture that was posted earlier, those were my my towers that were shaved, and my a arm barely hit on its way back up. We had to do some fine trimming...

But ours wasn't as notched as yours...

I don't see how the notch or "shelf" at the bottom of where you made the cut is going to look any better than the other notching jobs I have seen. :hmmm:

It seems no matter how the tower is cut, there will always be the ugly little notch in the bottom.

Yep, I've heard of Turbomustangs. I spend a lot of time on that site also.

Well, I did the Shelby drop tonight and checked the clearances...no problems at all. My next step is to make the roller spring perches and heim joint strut rod. Anyhow, here is a picture of the a-arm after mounting with the shelby mod.

Oh and yes, I know that there is still going to be a step in the tower, but it will be hidden under the headers and you won't be able to see it.

    Next...

Well tonight I got the roller spring perch built. If any of you guys want to try this...I highly recommend it! I can't believe how smooth and easy it works. Anyhow, I'd post a picture...but it doesn't look any different than the stock one. You've really got to feel it. Tomorrow I need to pick up some metal for patching the bottom of the tower so I can start welding again. Hmmm...I wonder where I'm at with shielding gas? Anyhow, something else to check. I should get going...Pinks is on...talk to you guys soon!

Well tonight I changed the angle on the top of the shock tower. Basically cut and sectioned it at an angle to line it back up with the new spring angle. Things are looking good, but I've still got a few issues to deal with...first the height of the shock will be awefully close to the hood...I think that I'll have to fab a shorter shock mount. I'm also thinking that I want to use an existing tower section to fill in the missing chunk. Anyhow, just thinking out loud there. I will drop the motor in tomorrow with the header to put the final position on the tower then it's on the the second one...
