i know its probably already been discussed but have any of you guys used the window tint from walmart with any success? is it easy to put on?
I never used Walmart stuff but in the past I have put the stuff on myself. Its not really hard to do. However, when I had my F250 done, I paid a local guy because it wasn't that expensive.
just remember... you get what you pay for.. checker, autozone, napa, pep boys, etc... all sell window tint.. i would buy that brand before i bought from walmart.. if the brand from walmart doesnt work, take it off, and take it back to them and get your money back... but you will have to scrape all the glue off ... it would be more work than you want...
I have Walmart tint on my Mustang for 14 years now. I have two little bubbles on the rear glass in the lower corner about the size of a marble where my work parking sticker was. It has a few light scratches on the side glass from dirt being caught between the seal and window but seems to be fine. I tend to neglect the outside of my car but I can't stand a dirty interior. This may have something to do with how well it has lasted. Don't remember what brand it was. Could have been better stuff then. Key to tinting is clean, Clean, and CLEAN. First, clean the glass, run over all the glass with a razor blade to clean the bug poop off the inside the window. Then clean it twice more. No paper towels (leaves fuzz). Only lint free towels. Don't try to do it outside in the wind or direct sun. Learned those lessons more than once. After you peel the protective film from the tint, if the tint folds over and creases, the whole piece is trash, unless you want to live with the crease for the rest of your life. No big deal, just costs $10 more for a new roll. Could be saving yourself a couple of hundred - depends on how good of a deal you could get it installed. Get a good spray bottle for the water mix. If your man enough, pick one up in the ladies hair section while at Walmart. Also pick up one of the little squeegees and a couple of good sharp razor blades. Dull blades will move the film and/or tear it. Use plenty of water when squeeging out the bubbles. Don't worry about the mess. It is only water and a little amonia. It will dry. Cleaver

I used 5% walmart tint on the quarter windows of my '85 cutlass, it was definatly a pita but it still looks just as good as the day i put it on 2 years later. the rear and side windows kicked my @$$ though, I gave up trying to get every bubble out. when it was all said and done i wish i had just paid the $200 to have it done. you just want to get every thing as sloppy as you can with ditergent and water and go from there. the flater the glass is the easier it will go on. a curve is ok too but when the glass is in a "bowl" shape it becomes a pita. I was also thinking about using it on my mav but i was wondering if i can take the knob out of the 1/4 glass or will i have to work around it? good luck
i have used it with good results. when im removing the clear part on the film. i also spray it with the solution.that way if it folds on itself,it comes right apart. creases are a whole different problem.
I too have used the walmart brand with no problem. As with any tint use a lot of soapy water. I use baby shampoo.....give the entire car a great smell
The easiest way to do the back window is to cut the tint into two sections then line them up.Or if you have a heat gun, that is the way the window tint guy does it at work.
yes, they did once have good quality items, but in today's world, you get what you pay for at WalMart KMart, etc.. with the competition and the greed from the companies, they get the cheap stuff and mark it up to be cometetive. im just saying.. you get what you pay for..
im bringing this thread back up cause i want more opinions from people who have tinted the back window of their mav themselves.. tips and techiniques?
