Met a couple of new to drag racing friends at the track today and had a great time. Turned in several runs and got a few things dialed in not to mention a great time for a couple of newbies. Wife even went along to run the video camera along with my "two little helpers" who had an absolute blast cheering on Dad. This was the first time out with new converter with about 500 rpm more stall. Noticed the other day the trans was slipping in high gear. Adjusted the band and found it was out about 2 turns. Turned it in 1 full turn and hoped for the best. Definitely going to have to freshen the trans at end of summer. Backed 4 degrees of timing out for the heat. Got lucky that the two other coalition tracks had big events today so there were absolutely no lines to wait in. Added air to the ET Street radials up to 19 psi from 15 psi. Best run was off the trailer against a BMW. Bimmer was running low 9's but quickly disappeared to my new best time of 7.472 @ 92 mph with a 1.652 60 ft.(previous best was 1.85). Next run the Mav looked like the Bimmer from my previous run. Guy has a relatively tame looking Cuda and I am thinking thinking resto-mod 440, should be a close race. I kept with him a few feet out past the 60 ft. From there, he starts pulling out so fast that I look down to quick scan the gauges for a problem. By the time we cross the finish he is starting to look smaller. Hands me my butt with a 6.32 @112 with my 7.64 @93. Turns out the Cuda had a big inch turbo small block Mopar under the hood. I regained my dignity by convincing myself he had more in the turbo set-up than the entire Mav has in it plus the trailer. No surprise about a first run highlight. It was about 85 degrees and since there were no lines I pretty much kept hot lapping the car and collected a fist full of slips in the 7.60-7.80 range. The day ended when the Mav started surging really hard off the line. Got back to the pits and the clear see thru fuel filter is almost empty except alot of rust and some mysterious bone color goo. Count myself lucky and put it on the trailer and watch the friends have an absolute blast running time after time. We'll drop the tank and see what is going on this week. Previous top speed was 96 mph. Not sure if the drop was because of the converter, timing, lack of fuel, all of above. For the time being, I'm pretty happy to be having such problems.:tiphat:

Yes guys, it was a blast to say the least. On the tires everyone kept telling me 15 psi or 18 psi or 10 psi...whatever. Got with a guy at the track and we started discussing. We decided to let the air out until the shoulders touched the pavement while sitting and then add air back in until the shoulders just lifted a little. The thinking was that the tire was going to squat and make good contact with the pavement on the shoulders when the load transfers. For me it was 19 psi. For him and his Nova it was 17.5. He ended up taking about .10 off his 60 ft. I think 15 psi was causing the center of the tire to lift on launch.

One of the benefits of hot lapping it :D . You get to find out what the car wants as far as psi. I make a few runs to see where to footprint is scuffing and adjust until the rubber is looks scuffed all the way across. Usually about 20psi for me.
