Hello everyone. I have a 1971 mercury comet. In fact I've been working on for 8 years now. I will post some pics of her as soon as she comes back home. When I first got the car, it needed alotta welding. So becasue of this car I became pretty good with a welder. welded floors, fenders, doors. You know the bad spots. This car was not original from the beginning. So I decided to build the car my way. ford 9" rear end, 302,C-4 trans. The 302 and trans are now outa the car. and I am now in the process of another upgrade. I having a stock small block 350 installed and a 350 trans. I know that some of you might be die-hard ford guys, and I can appreciate that, But the 302 left me stranded on the side of the highway too many times. But anyway, I am glad to be part of this community. I have some cross members and a few other items that I am gonna be selling. I will get a list together and if anyone is interested I will gladly part with them at very reasonable prices as I know first hand that parts for these are hard to come by, and very costly. If anyone else out there has a comet or maverick with the 350 stuffed, i'd like to see some pics, as I know it has been done before. Well, anyway I hope to get to know some of you in the future as well as I hope you get to know me. You will find I am very respectful and honest when asked questions. I am looking forward to hearing and seeing the pics of some of the cars you all have.
The 302 left you stranded on the road? At least with a 302 you can make it to the road - how far you think you will get with that chebby engine? J/K - just messin' with ya - welcome to the board - there are other Generic Motors powered cars here - its all good P.S. It isn't a 71 Comet GT is it? If so, better put on a firesuit! Those are kinda rare!
Lol. ya know, I kinda thought I would get blasted for the chevy engine stuff. I am one that can take a beating, as I know I will when the car is done. But thats ok. Kinda why I did a comet as opposed to a mustang or camaro. Not there is anything wrong with cars, I strive to be differnt then everyone else. No it is not a GT. When I checked out the #'s it was originally orange w/ a i-6. Pics will be coming soon. Thanks for the pleasent welcome too!
Welcome to the board. At least the Chevy won't leave you stranded. It's a Chevy and can't possibly produce enough HP to hurt itself. J/J . I will be interested in some of the parts. I have a 73 Mav. Please send me a list of the parts for sale to see if they will work. Thanks..........Maverick
w w w w w welcome aboard.... man, that was hard to get out. I'm sorry but I'm one of the guys that am proud of my Fords. I would never look for a Chevy body to put my Ford motor in because there are lots of good looking Ford bodies out there. I would think a Chevy guy would feel the same way about their cars. And you can get a worn out or bad motor in anything but the 302 Ford motor has been around since the 60's so they can't be too bad. I'd certainly love to bow my 302 up against your 350 when you get her finished. Oh yeah...did I say welcome aboard? :Handshake
Hi there MissMaverick. where abouts in Michigan. I live in Port Huron, work in Mt.Clemens and vacation up in the the U.P. Razorsharp. I understand where you are coming from. I did and still am taking heat over this decsion from both sides. But I am sticking to my guns and gonna carry through with this. I want to be differnt then everyone else. And when this is said and done I hope that people will at least appreciate the car for what it is. An American hotrod!!! I have prepared myself for the bashing I took and still taking before I joined this forum.lol, lol I'm sorry i'm not trying to build this car for racing, just driving.
There's no better place in Michigan to vacation, I love it up there! I'm about halfway between Lansing and Grand Rapids.
