Yesterday me and my dad were able to start the Stallion and it run for more than 1/2 seconds. The fuel filter was clogged and since we dont trust the fuel line, we used an home made canister plugged into the fuel pump and the engine now run on his own. We dont know if the car move, but that's another story. We need your advice about old motor oil. The Stallion didn't run for maybe 3 years (maybe more, maybe less we dont know). We checked the oil and its black. What do you suggest? Can we change the oil/filter right now? Should we run the car for some time and change the oil/filter after that? Should we run the car with some additive before changing the oil? Since i had bad experience with an old tillers and old oil (long story) we dont want to blow the engine and we need your advice. thanks!
Personally, I wouldn't hesitate to change the oil and filter. The cost and hassle isn't that much (relative to rebuilding the engine).
I would change the oil/filter right now (cheap stuff) while you are trying to get it running and back to a good safe street car(assuming that will mean lots of idling in the garage/driveway) . Then before I started driving it, I would change it again. Then after about 1,000 miles I would do it again; after that just do the regular schedule oil/filter change.
...cheap oil and filter... for the startup and then go to the good stuff when ready for the road.. ... ...
I agree with the 'change it cheap' crowd. Get it running well before using any expensive oil or filters. That will also help it clean itself up. Add a little ATF to the new oil if you like. It's just a high detergent engine oil. Will help clean things up too.
Ratio is right on about using some ATF. I worked at the dealership for 20 years and we did this many times to revive some cars that had been badly neglected.
I like the motorcraft filter. Warm up, drain, cheap oil an motorcraft filter. Run a hour an change again. See how oil looks then. Good luck
Thanks everybody for all your advice! We were affraid that putting brand new oil in an engine that hasn't ran for a very long period of time could blow it! I did that on an old tiller i had and i blew the engine. That's why i was asking if we could damage the engine. We dont want to blow the engine so we will mix all your advice and change the oil.
somehow i doubt the new oil was the reason the tiller blew. it was probably ready to do so anyway. new oil and filter will not harm an engine in any way.
...check when you drain the old oil and see if it has ...sludge...in it. if so you might want to drop the pan and clean the ...pickup screen. ... ...
