Do you really need the vents?

Well down here in Fl its like 135 F outside; and I really need to get an A/C system. I'm thinking about going with a vintage-air or something like that. The problem is I know my cowl has rust, and I think it's finally forming into holes. I had this idea, while at work, to cut out the vents on the car and then fix all the rust and all that jazz, then fill that massive hole with a plate and weld it in and make it look at nice. I really am not a fan of the vents, and I'm also going with a clean look, shaving door handles, etc.. So my real question is, will an Vintage air system work with my car if I cut and fill the vent(s)? I'm also making a custom center console, so I was thinking about mounting it with all the controls/vents under the dash, not behind, that way I could form it to my console and make it look perty(y). Thanks in advance guys:cheers:

Contact the CAMEO club which are down your way. They were the first I seen to do just that. Looks pretty good in my book.
