I had a guy talk to me at a local cruise in the other day after seeing my Maverick. He told me he had a 72 Grabber for sale. The car has no motor or tranny but all the body is there including the grabber hood. He said he would take $600 for it and I told him I would come by to check it out. Then someone posted a couple days ago that they had 3 Mavericks they needed to get rid of and they were only about 20 miles from me. I figured I better get busy checking these cars out so yesterday I got busy. I went for the 72 Grabber first simply because of the hood. I got there and was checking it out pretty close. The hood is very savable but will take a little work. I was very surprised when I opened the hood, the bottom inside lip is solid. There is surface rust on the outside which is not bad. The inside bracing is where the main problem is. I think it will be fairly easy to just section-cut out the bracing and get one from a donor hood and just replace it rather than try to repair that part. The rest should strip and repair rather nicely. The body isn't that bad either. There is a minimal amount of rust considering the car has been sitting several years. The floors are in great shape. The car still has the power steering attached...it's an a/c car. Still has the v8 mounts and belly bar. Well, before we even talked any business he said "Did I tell you $600? I tell you what, I'll take $400 if you want it." That's exactly what I was gonna offer for it to see if he might come down so there went the part about getting to dicker with somebody over their price. (I woulda gave the $600). Anyway, I couldn't pass it up so another restorable early Grabber is added to my stable.
Okay, now on to the other 3 Mavs about 40 miles in the opposite direction. I'm telling you these were in the boonies. My GPS said WTF when I put the address in. It actually located the street I was looking for but had no idea that it was gonna be sending me down a 2 mile long dead end street 3 miles before I got there. Then I had to get out and ask some guy with a chain saw if he knew how to get there. He told me I was on the wrong side of the river. After he yelled the directions to me over the noise of the chain saw I got back in my truck and said "Girlfriend (gps) please get me outa here!" :whew:About 45 minutes later I actually found the street after repeatedly ignoring my g/f to "make a u-turn". Well, to make a long story short...oops...too late. Oh well, all 3 of the cars turned out to be 4-door cars, 70,71, and 74. There were a few decent parts but I told the guy that I had no interest in them at all. Definitely nothing worth restoring and very few good parts. They were a haven for wasps and likey rats. If he had told me I could have them for free, I would have still turned them down. Actually, I would not take them if I was offered $100 each to get them out of there. Come to find out these cars had been sitting in the woods since at least 1979 if I heard them right. I was thoroughly disappointed. I suggested he call a scrap metal man. I have pics if anyone wants to see them. Craig may want them for Maverick Heaven. :(

That's an add-on silly. They're actually pretty rare too. I think I may put it on eBay if I decide to take it off.

Not a bad looking start. Good luck with it.
