asked Craig how he did it. I can seem to get them in. 69 1/2 do you have any suggestions? do they go in from the top or bottom? did you jack one side up at a time? if this was done I don't have much room to jack the passenger side up with the driver side installed. Help

Remembering how I had to put mine in (different brand/style but still same concept), I believe you will have to jack the front of the car up AS WELL as the engine (by removing the mounts) and installing them from underneath.

I tried to get mine passed the shaved shock towers (trying to go in through the top) and there was no way they would fit between the engine and the towers.

Like Shiny said, "Don't give up." We all hate installing headers.

Sorry. I would have answered earlier but I was forced into bbqing today :) .

Yes, you will need to jack the motor up about two inches on each side, one at a time (just like any other header). No need to pull the mount out completely just remove the two bolts from the block. It wont be a problem with jacking the motor up without damaging anything. Just use caution. The oil filter will get pretty close to the frame while jacking. but you can do it without damaging anything. Make sure the motor is completely supported!!!

They do go in from the bottom. I sent you a pm with my home phone #. Give me a call and I will help ya out so you can get her up a running for the weekend (y) .

    well

they are on. I had to remove the charcoal and vacuum canister and jack it up. Then it went in! I have a truck trans in the car and the dipstick tube was causing a problem. I had to jack the ds quite high to get that side in. only suffered a few scratches! will these things rust where they are scratched or does the coating hold up?

Great, I knew they would go on fine.

If the scratch did not go down to metal you will be fine. The coating is very tuff so I'm guessing that it didn't but If it did, just spray a little high temp aluminum piant on a rag and wipe it over the scratch then lightly wipe off the excess.

You will need to move the vacuum canister up one inch if you are going to keep it.

thanks 69 1/2, nice little trick with the high temp alum paint. I don't think it is down to the metal. Maybe the paint trick will help appearance a bit. Craig, I discovered the same problem with vacuum canister. Not a problem. So, for those doing this in the future, remove the vacuum canister and charcoal canister and lift the motor up about 1-2 inches and you should be able to slip it in from the top (no plugs in the heads either). On the driver side I found if you jack the engine up enough you can also slide it in from the top. I did the drivers side first and then the passenger side. Once the ds is in be careful when lifting the engine to install the ps as the header is close to the shock tower upper control arm bolts. They look good when installed and I would recommend a slightly shorter bolt then those that were shipped with the headers. I found that you have to install them all at the same time. If you start two bolts and run them in the others will not clear the tube to get started. Perhaps shorter bolts would? Don't you love headers!
