Hi everybody, I just took a couple of pictures of my car, since there are loads of things under the hood and inside that I can´t figure out what it´s used for, maybe somone here can help me, I tried to put arrows pointing towards the stuff I´m wondering about... Keep the faith! Lets name this Picture. 1
Charcoal canister. There is a line coming from the fuel tank that vents the tank through this can, then the fumes exit the top of the can and are brought into the air cleaner to be burned.
Ok!, so how am I supposed to hook this thing up, and do I need some kind of charcoal for the canister, do I need to hook it up to the air cleaner? and if so with what and where? Thank you for all your answers, I´m really trying to get everything in shape before I start using it, it runs and starts on the first try, but there is no airfilter and, just all the gaping holes, what do I attach to the big rectangular hole on the air cleaner??? Thank you again!!!
That cardboard tube is available from Ford still. Part # D4ZZ9D667A. You will need a nipple on your air cleaner to hook it to. If you dont have one, get one off another air cleaner. Very easy to install.
I threw mine away also. That big rectangular hole in the air cleaner doesn't have to have anything hooked up to it, but if it did, it would look kinda like the cool air intakes they use nowadays with a big tube going toward the grill of the car. Not sure how the Maverick was set up stock... And of course, get an air filter on there ASAP!
A lot of people throw them away. However, you vent gas fumes through the canister. So if you just remove it, you then have the small steel tube venting fumes under the hood of your car. It doesn't rob any power so I would hook it up.
I put a small fuel filter at the top of my fuel tank to keep the fuel from splashing out. I removed all the fuel lines running from the tank to the canister. Another option would be to remove the canister and put some sort of filter in there. It is really an unnecessary evil, one of those neat things they did to help create a better atmosphere and slow down global warming, etc. OR, you could just hook up hoses as they were set up on the stock configuration and ignore all of our ranting banter...
You guys are really awesome, I just woke up and started reading all your posts, this really means a lot to me, I just ordered a airfilter from USA so it´s gonna be here in like a week, but I still need the two belts, the one that run from the alternator, and the other one that runs from, well? Here in sweden they just look at me when I try to get them to understand that I bought this car and want to fix it up, anyone got the right measurements for the belts?, I´m not sure that mine is the right one, and even if it is, I´m not sure I can get it here... I don´t know how to thank you all...
i have used a ...rope...to get an idea how long a belt needs to be. set the adjusters (a/c p/s pump alt. etc. etc.) in the middle of the slot. run the rope around the pulleys and measure the rope from the end to where it touches itself . if the belt is too big/little you can go up or down from there. ...:Handshake ...
Oh la la!!! The rope thing sounds like a really great idea, better get dressed and run down to the garage... Thanks a bunch!!!
Back in action, tried the rope and yes 109.5 cm or 110 cm, can this be right? Today it doesnt crank either... sad so sad...
Would it be cheaper to find someone in the states to order the parts and mail them to you? Just a suggestion. Not sure if it will help you out. We send Christmas gifts to Norway and know that if it isn't a book, the postage it outrageous... PS--what's a "cm"?
