Noticed a slight coolant drip underneath the heater core. If the heater controls are in the Off position and not used, is there still coolant circulating through the core or do the control switches block off the coolant flow? Don't really need a heater since I don't use the car in the winter. Fan works fine.
If you have air, you definitely have a heater control valve that shuts off flow to the core. Non-air cars, I am not sure. Look for a valve on one of the heater hoses, it should have a vacuum line running to it. If you want to disconnect the core, cut the two hoses and put a bypass in. Then blow what coolant you can out of the core so it quits dripping.
No A/C here. I think I may just do the hose bypass since I really don't need the heater. Thanks for the response.
Yep......just either cut the hoses....or remove them from the heater core and by-pass the heater core all together. Actually.....the heater core is real easy to replace on your car...that is what I would do.
Bypassing it works, but like Mr. Selvey said above, its not hard to replace. It can be a little bit of a safety issue too, if you need the defrost/defog and don't have it. I know you said you don't plan on driving it in the winter, but all its gonna take is one of those early morning or late nights when you don't expect it.
