Got the fan shroud, fan and fan hub off the water pump. Got all the bolts off the pump too but the bolt on the passenger side goes through the alternator adjuster plate before going through the water pump. And I can't get the alternator plate off. I guess I could but I would have to remove the A/C unit and like 8 bolts in tough places. Here is a picture. And also, it's a 200cc engine with A/C and a 1971. Thanks for any suggestions. Also, the thermostat doesn't "lock" into the thermostat housing, I tried following my little manual but I couldn't get it to lock into place after turning it clockwise, is there a specific way it should sit?
locking t-stat housing? the one on my 250 I6 just bolts on. on most engines you'll find the water pump is bolted directly to the front of the block and every other belt driven acesory or bracket in some way is tied in to the water pump and will have to be removed or at least losened. my I6 comet has the full works, a/c p/s alt and polution pump. im really not looking foward to the day it'll need a new pump btw the engine in your car is a 200 CI not 200 cc. C.I. stands for cubic inch, cc is cubic centimeter. youll see that alot on dirt bikes and small lawn mower engines etc. but there really is no comparison good luck
Many years ago I changed my water pump on my old 200.....I don't remember exactly......but I'm thinking that we had to remove most everything on the from of the engine. I remember thinking at the time that it was a huge ordeal....Good Luck!! Preston
I thought I was supposed to put some silicone on the bolt . . . oops, I may have to redo the thermostat then . . . so, do any of the waterpump bolts need anything to keep them from leaking?
I have seen that text in some manuals too, but have never encountered one on an engine. The thermostat will not lock into the housing, you'll just have to be careful that it is seated in the recessed area.
success! I got the water pump off. I had to remove the alternator (2 bolts) and then removed the alternator bracket (8 bolts). Pretty easy to do, no need to disconnect the wires off of the alternator, just take off its bolts and push it to the front to gain access to the alternator bracket. Didn't have to remove A/C, thank god. Gonna fill her up tomorrow and check for leaks. Thanks everyone.
Hey! Glad to know you got 'er put back together!! I'm sorry I couldn't help more....but it's been several years since I did mine.... But glad you got it done!! Take care! Preston
