well was doing some research last night and 73 no grabber hood and 73 last year of the grabber spoiler.....so i'm pretty much leaning towards it being a 73, but dont get me lying. and i also checked both drivers and passenger side inner door markings. and both sides look like theres a sticker under the paint, or at least the lines of where a sticker used to be....any ideas on removing the paint on the sticker without destroying it?

use a paper towel and a very little bit of mineral spirits thinner or laquer thinner, if you don't mind some tedious scrubbing (hard but not too hard if you know what I mean) you might be able to get away with a 69 cent can of ronsol lighter fluid to ge tthe paint off the sticker

ok....was able to get the paint off the sticker....sadly enough part of it was to faded to be fully readable, but here is what I got

Build date 11/70 partial vin that was left i'll put x's for the missing numbers and letters xxx3t1x4019 im pretty sure the 3rd x is 9 as the body code is 62D (grabber), DSO appears to be 21 (Atlanta) Trans W (C4) axle & trim unreadible, faded away. and color E (medium yellow gold) now thats a new one on me....anybody got pics? so i'm assuming 11/70 IS a 71 model correct? and with all of this, I have no doubt the VIN has been changed now....but whats really puzzling me now is WHY

anybody got any more info that might help? and i'm assuming if I can figure out the rest of the vin theres no way to re-tag it correctly is there?

Sounds like the person that sold it to you knew what it was. That vin matches his description if I'm not mistaken. Maybe he would know why the dash vin is different. The dash panel can be unbolted out of these cars and the vin is riveted to that panel. Sounds like the entire dash may have been changed...or maybe the entire frontend clip was changed out at one time due to a bad accident. Just speculating here. :hmmm:

I think your going to have to pull the fenders to get the full vin. Does it have an air dash? maybe they swapped it so they could install A/C?

On the passenger side, it's about tat he solenoid, on the lip that holds the fender in place, and on the driverside it's just in front of the shock tower on the same lip. Hopefully thier in good condition, they tend to rust out.

there is no title, i got the car from alabama and they dont require titles for cars this old, BUT here in Mississippi I will have to get a bonded title...I have a BOS and all the info I need to title the car, I guess I will have to title it has a 73 maverick since thats what the vin states

I think you are correct. I would go with the VIN on the dash.

Definitely ...the dash VIN is what a cop would look at ... if he ever had a reason to look.

well gotta go today to the beautiful insurance lady down the road today  and talk to her about getting a bonded title....hopefully the discrepancy wont fall into play.....the BOS has the dash vin #, but it also states on the BOS that its a 71 maverick.....maybe i'll get lucky and they'll do the title up as a 71 instead of 73....but with my luck, i'll have to get another BOS stating its a 73
