heading to a local junk yard tomorow at lunch, just wondering what cars too look for a serpentine belt pulleys i just need alt, waterpump and crankshaft, crown vics?
i guess any of the 1980's 5.0 powered cars should give you what you need. fox's, vicks, grand marq.s, lincoln towncars, trucks. i think youll need to use every pullie to get it to work with out any modification
The mid to late 80's Crown Vic, Marquis and Lincoln Town Car have a std rotation serpentine style belt. One drives the W/P, Alternator and P/S. The other drives the A/C & smog pump. The 84-88 T-Bird/Cougar had another variation on this but with two serpentine belts & one V belt. The Stangs, Pickups and vans had a reverse pump and serpentine system.
yeah, but me and the fiance trying to figure out a way to keep the car, at this point in time it looks like i maybe renting to own a house from her parents.
If you only have waterpump and alternator, why put in a serpentine? You can run all of that on one thin v-belt...
it kinda looks nicer, thats what i'm runnign right now, but once in a great while the car throws a belt, so one of my pulleys maybe not straight or maybe they are a bit off.
Mine was throwing belts, i have some washers behind the water pump pulley to line it up better. Not throwing anymore. I think I have one or maybe 2 layers of lock washers between the pulley and the pump.
[/quote] Sniff Sniff.... i smell a FL-1A oil filter... lol.. ahhh motorcraft.... hey zoom zoom.... make sure you line up the serps good too, it'll throw a belt with them as well if it isn't running true.
I got a 88 engine in my car, I kept the alternator bracket off the passenger side, with the 88 alternator. I dont have power steering, so I had to get rid of the PS and AC. so I removed everything off the drivers side of the motor, added a long bolt in the head, and added a second alternator. The pulley has to be bigger on the second alternator, so after it was said and done, I used a belt from a 91 lumina and I got a serpentine belt that works well, and if my big alternator craps out I got a backup, or good for if I ever put a big stereo in it, I got extra power to run it away from the other charging system. On the 88 alternator,, 3 wires, large black goes to the solinoid, two small wires,, one goes with the black wire at the solinoid and the other has a toggle switch hooked ino the amp guage back to the small wire going to the solinoid. Charges 13.8 at idle, 13.9 at 3000 rpm and 105 amp. Chad
After someone posted a test of oil filters link on this forum, I have since used motorcraft on all my cars...Sometimes it is hard to find one that fits, but on my Dodge truck, I use one that is not only motorcraft, but is a couple inches longer increasing my oil capacity almost 1/2 qt! Before that I was a 100% FRAM guy...not no more!
I have 5.0 mustang pulleys on a standard rotation pump,no ribs on water pump pulley and it works perfect.
