My 76 has started doing something crazy! every morning when I'm starting it the horn blows, by it's self three time quickly, i.e. beep beep beep. I asked a friend who has been working on cars all his life and he doesn't know what it means. My Mom owned the car from when it was new and I have had it for 6 years and it never did it before. Anyone out there have an idea?

Ok, I ain't any expert, so...

ya gets what you pay for, but...

Follow the wire back all the way from the horn to the horn switch, if you can. Look for any bare spots, sounds like it might be shorting somewhere... ?

Or something is inducing current in that wire..

It sounds like a bios beep code on my computer....check your memory, it may need to be re-seated.

    (sorry couldnt resist, computer humor....)

yep sounds to me like your wire is bare somewhere on the column.......your ignition rod is probably rubbing on it

you have to check the flux capacitor,to make sure it is recieving the needed 1.21 jigawatts!......check the wire coming from the horn, more than likely the insulation has rubbed through, causing a short,in the system..good luck...chuck.

Ok, these horns are grounded through the mount and the wire going to the horn supplies 12 volts. A short in the wire somewhere would just blow the fuse, not sound the horn. The problem is probably somewhere in the horn button (or pad) or the steering wheel connections. There are 2 brushes in there that ride on rings on the back side of the steering wheel. Probably one of the brushes is intermittently shorting the tracks together. I would check the horn pad first, then pull the steering wheel to check the rest.

dennis, i was on the same train of thought but that would make it blow at anytime not just on start up. he could just turn the wheel and the horn should blow. it also should blow when the key is off. on the other side it will make people think he has remote door locks and he is locking the doors, just needs to flash the lights at each start up. that is about the only thing that hasn't happened to one of my mavs...frank...:bananaman :bananaman L.T.N.G.

    But isn't there the possibility,

that something is inducing current in the horn wire?

Although, I can't see how you'd get enough power there through induction to blow the horn,

    Very odd....

Check the horn switch too, there may be something wrong with that too.

Just so happens that I changed out my steering wheel as well, and ever thing from the black wire out is brand new. I have traced the wire from the horn back to the steering wheel and its not nick broke or even rubbed hard any where along the way. I was thinking that the 3 horn beeps was a indication of some part like the module was starting to go or something. The module on the is car is one of the few parts that I haven't changed to date.

I had a similar problem once, the horn would blow for no reason, sometimes when I was sitting still and sometimes when I was driving. People would look at me and wonder why I was blowing the horn at them. The problem went away when I replaced the steering wheel.
