Well, I got a nasty surprise when I went out to the beater Maverick Saturday morning. Seems somebody with 13" long feet decided to jump up onto the hood of my car (oil canning in the hood) as well as busting out the drivers side window.

Then Saturday evening, a neighbor called to let me know someone was prowling around my car at 11:00 PM. I took a flashlight and ran out to where the car is parked. No one visible. Looked around and heard noises from the bushes in the little park. I spotlighted the area and heard someone take off running. He ran into an apartment complex where I lost him. Didn't get a good look at him.

I live in a housing association. We are not allowed to park our cars on association property so I have to park on the street a block away. I park under a streetlight. This is the third drivers side window for my Mavericks. My truck has been broken into 3 times in this location. My Mustang was stolen and totaled from here. But I can't afford to move with housing prices so high in CA.

I already take walks around the neighborhood several times a night. I carry a camera and a 3 million candlepower portable sun for spotlighting the people who are smoking dope in the park, having sex in cars in front of my house, vandalizing the park, etc.

So long story short...(too late, I know), I need to find a drivers side window for an early style door. The method of attaching the window to the window mechanism changed at some point. I have a set of windows from a '75 that won't work with my doors.

Anyone have a window you are willing to sell? Please? No 2 door Mavericks or Comets in any of the local salvage yards yesterday.

    Jayman,

I understand your interest in protecting your car but please be careful. I can't tell you how many times I've heard this story with a really bad ending. If you think someone's at your car, call the police.

I don't know how your Police department is but you might try speaking with someone at headquarters about increasing patrols.

At the very least, make sure you're with someone else and if possible (permit, experience and practice), make sure you have a .40 or.45 buddy with you.

Sorry I can't help you with the window but I understand your aggravation. I lived in a center city area for five years. In my case, a video camera and friends on the force made life tolerable. Plus, catching one of the little ****s in the act and sharing a little love got the word around. Do what you have to do but be safe.

I feel lucky to now be living in the country, but there was a time I was in the same situation and couldn't trust the neighborhood.
Good luck to you and listen to mulberrycop, he's got great advice.

my friend rents a small parking spot in a out door RV parking center for $20 a month, he parks his project car there. if your maverick is not your daily driver that might be something you could look into. either way i know i would be pissed if i was in your shoes.

    good luck

Are you forgetting that he lives in the Peoples Republik of Kalifornia and the mere mention of S&W would likely get him locked up while the person vandalizing his car would probably go free. I mean where else in the United States could someone tell you that you can't park your personally owned vehicle on the property you are renting or purchasing.

Ooops Sorry I forgot this is the Maverick Forums not the Hunting and shooting forum I belong too... LOL :D

  :rofl2: I love it. I still have hopes some day that California will break off the United States and float away out into the ocean. :rofl2:

Sorry to hear what happened to your car Jayman. Guess I'm lucky the worst thing someone had done to my car is turn the headlights on and leave the door standing open so I would have a dead battery the next day.

What stinks is homeownwers associations, pay hard earned money for YOUR home, and have some association dictate what you do with your own property.

How far can I have my mailbox from the street, what color can I paint my house, ho w many cars may have, Can I raise chickens in my yard? how many times per day do I have to bend over for the Association... No thanks Not for me, I'll put my box where I ( and the post office) say I can I'll paint my house Freudian Guilt if I want to and I 'll park My project on the front lawn if I want too.

Taser... that's all I have to say. Makes them go right to the ground and can be used a few times without serious injury. What would also be nice is a dart gun. A bb gun, AEG M-16/Mp-5 would also do the trick. Then get some zip ties and tie him somewhere and call the cops. Go serve 'em some justice(y).

Yeah I agree it is terrible about what has happened in the past to his car and sounds like a on going thing with car vandalism in that area.

Years ago we had some neighborhood teenagers that were going through our subdivisions and egging cars that were parked on the sides of the road. This was happening about a month or two after I had bought the Blue Maverick in my signature. The paint job had just been put on the car a few months before I bought it and I luckily had a younger sister that was still in school and able to put the word out among the teen hoodlums that If my car got hit with an egg there was going to be Rocksalt or Rubber buckshot flying from my bedroom window. Of course this was back in the late 80's early 90's when a person living in Southern Maryland still had a right to protect their property. The wierdest thing was both my Maverick and my 1988 Escort GT sat on the side of the subdivision road right next to and across from half a dozen other cars that got hit with eggs over the next month or so and neither of my cars nor any of my Dad's vehicles ever got any egg on them. :D

That story aside I still don't think I would want to make that threat in The People's Rep. of Kalifornia today. Probably not a wise thing to say in Maryland anymore but hopefully I'll be moving to Montana in the next 5 years anyway and I know out there they allow you to protect yourself and your property.:dancing:
