I pulled the 3 speed out of my Comet today to switch over to a 5 speed. I have a 93 Cobra transmission. First I tried a 5.0 bellhousing that I had laying around but it would not clear my flywheel. I dont know where this bellhousing came from. I thought they were all the same. So I installed one of those adapter plates on my original bellhousing and put the T5 in there. I thought these transmissions were longer but the only mod I have to make to the mount is to notch the front of it for transmission clearance. I thought I would have to make a new trans mount. Also, the drive shaft goes right back in, although it is a little tight. I will probably shorten it about an inch just to ease installation. I always thought they had to be shortened more than that. Any of you 5.0 guys have any ideas?

Hi, Dennis; I just had a '93 Mustang trans put in my car, and the bell came from an '89 GT. The drive shaft fit back in, with no mods. I didn't need an adapter plate, and I had to use a 157 tooth flywheel (Fidanza). I did use a cable clutch setup, which is why I had to use the late model bell. You should be able to use the stock bell, if you have a 157 tooth flywheel. You may have a 164 tooth, which might be why it won't fit. BTW, if you use a late model bell, you need a small starter from a late model Mustang. Hope this helps.:)

Dennis, what type of clutch linkage are you gonna use? With cable or hydraulic the z-bar pivot points on the block and frame don't need to align so the engine can move forward a little and the crossmember and driveshaft fit. My T5 mounting pad was about 1 1/2" rearward from stock, had to modify the crossmember. I do remember Lonnie saying that all he had to do to his was drill a couple holes farther back in the crossmember.:hmmm: 'Course I'm using the original 6 cylinder crossmember, too. Maybe that has something to do with it?

the D-shaft is right, you added an adapter and lost distance.
