Takes a second or two to go into gear.
I start my mighty Comet, shift to reverse and it takes a second or two to actually go. The same goes for foreward gear. This happens only at first when I fire up the car. After a drive it stops doing it.

    Um...wtf yall?

My car does that going into first... try a vacume modulator, check all vacume lines going to the tranny. Also let it warm up abit (couple minutes). check fluid level... hope that helps.

    Vacuum lines?
I had planned on eliminating all those hoses under my hood soon.
    Argh!

Mine did it to. I adjusted the band and it took care of it.

If you have a auto you need that vacuum line unless you install a manuel valve body kit... even then I don't know.

    First off:

Change your fluid and filter, check the bottom of the pan for a lot of debris... if it all looks good, you might want to get a 300 pound test guage and the hose to connect to the left side of the trans, near the shifter (it's just a bolt there, easy to find)

Check the pressures coming out, see what it says,

I ran the car for a few minutes and checked the fluid and it was looooow so I added a half quart of fluid and it drives like a different car now. Smooth shifts, no lag and it even sounds better. The hump gets less hot too.
