i had my tank off putting the return for my TBI so i thought it would be a good time to install a drain plug.

    ...SAFTY FIRST...
i washed my tank out with ...soap and water...2 times...then let it air out over night. mine is a new tank so it cleaned the fumes out easy. an older tank might need more cleaning.

on the bottom center of the tank is a ...flat spot...here i drilled a 7/8" hole.
    i took a...thick 2 1/2 in. flat washer...and welded a ...1/2x20 nut...onto it.
next i i welded the ...washer W/nut centered inside the hole... to the tank.
coated the outside of the washer with ...Rust Bullit...
got a...rubberized replacement oil pan drain plug (1/2x20)...and screwed it into the welder nut.
on the inside i got(from my rad. shop) some ...gas tank coating...he gave me a pint to do the inside bottom of the tank to coat the welded spot.
he put the coating in a ...pint glass jar... here is a pic i took of the jar after the coating dried in the jar. i broke the jar to see how the coating would hold the glass.it had a ...broken windshield effect...
i hope you find this info. helpfull :yup:

That looks like the stuff I coated my tank with. It (my stuff) is called "Red coat". How about a pic of the tank?...

Drain plugs are always a good idea. If you convert to a mustang tank, always get one with a drain plug.

Good idea Frank,, and I also use the kitchen table for stuff like that. That red stuff sure does work well.

Gas tank shops usually use CO2 before trying any welding or cutting as a safety feature.

What else does shine come in besides a mason jar?
They are the BEST drinking glasses, when they are full of shine.
