I installed my 6901 Hooker headers last night. They are in the way of my pitman arm. I should have pictures by tomorrow. Anyone else have this problem and more importantly would anyone have a solution?
Some cars do some don`t hit mine just touch at the end of full left turn. You could get 3 different sets of the same # and they will fit differently.
I'd like to see pics. How far can you turn until the pitman hits? Some people have to dent the tube in, but chances are that the Hookers are made right and something changed on the car over the years. Not saying that something is wrong with your car but motor mounts can sag and change the way the engine sits in the car. Another cause can be that the motor is in a little cocked also due to aftermarket mounts like Anchor available at almost all parts stores these days. They suck big time. I had a hell of a time getting the engine to sit right in the bay using those mounts and still have a slight problem, I will have to grind the pins off the mounts to get the engine to sit right . I will be buying energy suspension or some other type of poly mount because I know they are made exactly like original and won't sag or flex. Hope this helps, but if not we'll keep trying .
Mine hit anything left of straight, and I would think if it was the car you would be able to tell something is out of whack, everything else lines up perfectly, but those 6901s sucked for some reason. I destroyed a set trying to make them work, then I bought the Doug Thorleys
Mine only bottomed out on a full left chock. Did it only with the manual setup ('72, I think). Not the power setup ('74). FWIW
You need to install the "Power Steering Drop Bracket" with headers (old leaky picture follows)...JEGS pt at http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_10001_10002_16812_-1
WTF? I have manual steering and the #6 tube IIRC hit the ARM at anthing left of straight, I think I had a bum set ordered from autozone, that must have been my problem
I have a manual steer car with 6901's, my steering hits the oil pan on the passenger side and the headers on the driver's side at full turn left or right respectively. My hookers also hit the floor of the car, the subframe just ahead of the driver's torque box, along the speedo cable. I dented them pretty good to stop that.
Hmmm... Where would I get one of these fancy brackets? This is what I thought would probably be needed originally until the service manager said that a bracket would mess up my steering geometry. Does this bracket hurt anything or mess up any geometry?
Hooker sells that bracket, it's in Summit, and I don't think it messes the geometry being that the ram is only an assist, not the actual tie rod
That's odd. I was afraid that I would have that problem since I am running Canfield heads, which have the exhaust ports raised .400" over stock. I still have plenty of clearance at the floor.
Thank You You guys are a godsend. I would have had my shop retrofitting some bull**** if it wasn't for you. Thanks!!!!
im probably going to get headmans and SUPER 44s and a 3 inch tube to connect.. but how are the headmans? good?
