    Hello,

I have the opportunity to buy a 1976 Maverick equipped with a 250 I6. I would like to fit it with a 302, and have seen a "long block" 302 for sale in my area taken out of a 1993 F-150. I haven't been able to find any source of information that tells me the difference between a "short block" 302 and the "long block" variety. Will it fit into the Maverick's engine bay, or do I need to locate a "short block"? Does a "long block" weigh more?

    Thank you,

    Jack

Long block suggests that the heads and possibly the intake will be on it. A short block means the block and all the lower end stuff. You dont want a short block unless you are building something to your liking, all upper stuff...
That engine may be big due to the plenum or intake system (tall), but not 100% on that. May want to see what guys have to say before spending the $$$...

Thanks for the reply blugene, but intake/plenum height shouldn't be an issue. I plan on making it carbureted.

    Ahh...
The oil pan may need to be changed, but that's small stuff.
The direction of the spark plugs may need to be looked at, incase they won't allow the use of headers or correct fit manifolds. Good luck :Handshake

You will need a front cover with a fuel pump mount unless you go with an elecrtic pump.Water pump inlet and out let may be on the wrong sides as well.If so you will need to change radiator or front cover/water pump due to the motor being reverse rotatation coolant flow but I think that may only apply to the HO engines and not the truck engines. Not sure.Do a search on this site for engine swaps you will find the info you need to do it right.Good luck.
