Ok guys I need your opinions here.

I have a neat '71 Grabber, but it's powered by a 250 rather then a V8. The six runs great and I am a inline fan, but I have a chance to buy a 302 for this car or maybe another sitting along side it.

If I stay with a 6 I will add a header, multi carbs or larger single, Cam and lottsa head work and a 5 spd. If I go with the V8, I may leave it automatic, but add headers, cam, carb.

My question is V8 or modify the 6?

Thats really a question only you can answer but, how often do you see a really tricked out 6? I'm voting for that since its your money.

I love V8s and i have one in my car, but i like to see something different every once in a while. I think building a bad 6 would be cool, you just wouldnt have that sound.....

Absolutely positively a V-8. We need to keep them alive since most production cars now come with fours and sixes.

A six can definitely kick ass, but put the SAME amount of money into a V-8 as a six, and the V-8 will flat-out smoke it...

I think a six with a aussie head and a header with a 5 speed manual or a 4 speed auto would be a fun car and get good MPG. Spray a little nitrous to get it moving also a 8" rear would be a good upgrade.

Doing all that work to a six to accomplish the same feat as a v-8? But I do agree it is very cool to hop up the little six. Yep go with the hot 6, you just never see that anymore. Plus the handling of a Maverick with the lighter inline and a few suspension mods would make that steer (get it "steer") handle like a slotcar.

I forgot......my first mav was a 72 w/200" six and manual 3 speed. Tried to hop it up the best I knew how on a 16 year olds income(?). What fun.:D I remember beating a BMW 320i, how humiliating for him. hahaha

I say stay with the 6 and work it. I see the 6's in our Mavs and think what a dream to work on. It would definitly be something out of the ordinary and very coool imho:cool:

I had a six and went to a v8. If I had it all to do again I think I would have kept with a I6. Less hassel(maybe), save $ and have something different and original. But either way you go will be the right decision.

    You guys are great.

Looks like the 6 is winning and I do have a soft spot in my head for the 6. I also have a spare 250 to build while I drive.

Aussie head is a great way to go. I have the Ak Miller artical on 3x1 on a Mav, but it's a 200 and shorter, so Aussie may get the nod. Who makes a header for the Mav/250? Besides Clifford. There is an Aussie header listed on the Ford 6 site, but they didn't know if it will fit a Mav. Next the C4 will have to go for a T-5. Got the 8" already in place and Disc brakes waiting to go on.

I'll give this a few more daze, but Thanks for the info guys. Oh by the way, I love the sound of a hot six. They are just mellow rather then rumble.
