So i got my car running, and driving finally. But when i give the motor too much gas too quick it bogs down and most of the time dies. If i get the rpms up a little first then floor it it'll work fine, but i dont like how it bogs down when i first give it gas. i'm going to go home today and check the timing. but if that doesnt work then i have no idea whats causing it, does anyone have any idea why it does this?

Accelerator pump not adjusted properly.Carb adjusted too lean.Idle set too low.Check those first before you mess with the timing.

is it warmed up? if the intake is cold the gas will condense and it wont ignite as well at all. that happens to me when i first start my 200.

all has been adjusted, i tried it warm too... same thing, i have a friend who's a ford guy, he thinks its the vaccume advance. so he's arranging for me to take the car to a motor guy who will hopefully fix it. and i've adjusted my choke so it barely turns on enough to start the car so thats not it either. we'll have to see what the motor guy has to say. :thumbs2:

You went the wrong way with your choke. You need the mixture richer not leaner.
Set the carb up to the manufacturers specifications.

yeah tucson...its always hot, and its automatic choke...i really dont even need the choke since it doesnt really get that cold here...i know that the choke isnt causing the problem because it was still bogging down after it was at operating temp.

now that i think about it i had a sbc do something simular to that when it had a MAJOR exhause leak. i thought it was a blown header gasket when i bought it but the back 2 bolts on the passengerside header wernt even in. if i stomped it, it just choked and died. id have to slowly ease into it to get it going

my car has this same problem, and it's not the vacuum advance on the distributor cause i changed that. I think it's the accelerator pump in the carb some how it's not working right.

yeah it was the accelerator pump... i couldnt find one that worked in town so i bought just the rubber piece, put that on, and now my car runs like a champ. but now it has the shifting problem. simple modulator swap...

Look down the barrel of the carb (while its off) and pump the gas. If there's a squirt of fuel the accelertor pump is working. Do the same thing while pushing the throttle slowly, there should be a steady stream through the entire movement. I had that problem on an Autolite 2bbl I put on my daughter's 65 Falcon 200ci six. Come to think of it I'm having the same problem on my Mav now, guess I should take my own advice:oops:

What carb does it have? My old '73 had a Carter RBS on its 250, it had lots of accelerator pump problems.
