hay guy's im swapping my steering column, and i noticed that the harness clip is different from a 77 to my 70. most of the colors are the same, should i just splice my old clip on to the new column ?. also i don't know how to remove the ignition switch, can anbody tell me how to "switch the switch's";)
    i would appreciate any help.

The ignition switch is really just mounted on the side of the column. The key lock moves a rod that hooks to the switch to turn it to its various positions. Its easily swapped out. The other wiring harness goes to the turn signal switch. Just put the turn signal switch in the column that matches the dash harness, You shouldnt have to cut anything.

mavaholic my main reason for switching the steering column was a completly shot turn signal switch ( also the whole thing was held together with wire ) so back to my original question, can i just splice each wire into the matching colored wire on the new column ?. and also could we get a wee bit more specific on the ignition switch;) i have never removed one before, so what is the procedure to remove it. thank's again.

The turn signal switch is far easier to change than the steering column. Just pull the wheel, unscrew the turn signal lever, unplug the harness, and remove 3 phillips screws. I'm sure someone has a good switch they could sell you.

mavaholic its not that simple, like i said the whole column is shot. the shifter mounting ear was broke and held on with wire, as well as the gear indicator, and there was a section missing underneath behind the wheel. now that we have the issue of just changing the harness out of the way,
maybe we could back to the how to's;) i appreciate you trying to save me some time mavaholic but the other column must go in. thank's again.:bananaman :bananaman

If you asking how to remove the actual lock cylinder out of the column, you have to have the key in order to get it out. Is that what you are talking about?

I didnt realize the whole column was trash. Check the wires for each end. if you have the same amount and the same color codes, it will be easy to splice them together. Since the new column is out, take it to a locksmith and have a key made for it.
