FYI: '02 z-28 ran a 12.87 et, bone stock. 3rd pass, and never dragged before. 1st pass was a 13.5 I think, and 4th was like 12.9. And I doubt you will see too many stock F-bodies. 5.0s are alright, but again, most have been "massaged" as some would say. Oh and the z-28 was an auto, factory tires as well. So my goal later in life is to have a stroked 351w, with roughly 400-500hp. I would indeed recommend a 302 over 305 or any GM, just due to ease of use on a Mav/Comet, just like these other guys have said.

I've seen factory mustangs the same year as that run the same times or better.. They were closely matched cars from what ive seen

No way a bone stock 2002 Mustang GT could run that fast ... they were only like 260 HP that year ... I think the 2002 Cobras were 320HP so maybe a Cobra ... the Z28 was 310 HP ...

I apologize, I didnt see the 02 part. I was thinking of earlier ones.

But at that the Cobra is the "z-28" in ford terms correct?

seems like not enough factors in your question ;)

perform how? In a straight line? cuz new IRS suspension sucks when it comes to a straight line... too much power no traction! but newer cars come with some nice horse power these days and handle 10xs better or should i say MORE better... lol! btw stock 302s in mavericks are dogs!

Prob nothing different in the 2 motors

    a 302 is a 302 unless its a H.O or other special motor series

The base 302s usually were around the same HP and such

    So which should I go for a 5.0 ( '89 Lincoln Town car) or a 289 ('67 Stang)?

I couldn't honestly tell you there.

Depends if either have sat forever and a day.
Also, if your looking to just bolt it in and go.

The 89 lincold you can't use the intake on it etc due to it being computerized.

Im not sure what the 289s in the stangs put out, but if its just your basic 289 then Im sure the 302 out of the Lincoln will have more power (proboally not a TON more but more)
