I was on the highway today and something came off of my car. my car normally has a pulsating vibration at around 55, and today when I went to pass some one I got on it and something broke. I could hear it snap and it looked like a piece of black plastic or something? anyways my car has a pulsating vibration at any speed now and it's pretty bad, even at idle though the idle speed is steady. what could have broke off and caused this, any ideas?

good call, it did look like a fan blade sorta from what i saw in the rear view.

I just checked and all my fan blades are on there, but on further inspection the bottom of the shroud is missing and it was there before. how would this cause the pulsating vibrations though.... it doesn't sound like they're rubbing when it's running.

You probably need a fan. If the old one hit the shroud it is probably not balanced any more.

I checked it all out and have determined the vibration to be in the fan. I went to the auto store and they have some electric fans but it said since I have a 302 that I would need to have two fans on. are there any better electric fans out there that would work with just one? they also had a flex fan that should be easy to put on, looks like it just bolts in. I don't know which way to go so if anyone has an suggestions I'd be grateful:) thanks

just go with an oem fan, if you are sure that that is your problem. I bet you could pick one up from almost anyone on this board for next to nothing.

Nick; I had an overheating problem, and a 16" electric did not do it. I finally went back to a stock fan, and got a shroud. Once I put the shroud on, it works fine, and even with the air on, never gets over 180 degrees on a hot day. Hope this helps,

    Earl

nick, i put the flex fan on my car. to me that was a bad mistake. the blades are like razor blades. every time i opened the hood one of them got me. they were so thin they started chipping parts off. i went back stock fan and a shroud. as earl said i think a full shroud is a must to keeping it cool.jmo...frank...:bananaman:bananaman
