Went to the local Pull-A-Part thursday to check out a new 72 maverick arrival, and sitting next to it was a 74 grabber. both were mostly stripped prior to being sent to the yard but there was some good parts left. Got a belly bar, throtle bracket, sport mirrors and door pull off the grabber. Someone had destroyed the door panels to get the door locks out. on the 72 I got the armrests and seatbelts. bumpers weren't worth getting. front had been wrecked and the rear was bent and very rusty. But here is my best find....never over look and mid 70's ford...never know what it might have.. the one on top is from my 71 grabber the bottom pair came out of a 76 gran torinoThe armrests were in good condition too...no rips...just the wrong color..tan...but nothing a little sem paint won't take care of. Also got my new tag.\ Robert
Cool! I own the Grabber tag for Mississippi but no longer live there. I may be willing to forfeit it to a Mississippi board member.
I went to the JY Friday.....for "other" reasons......but still no maverick/comet stuff. There was a couple neat cars that I looked at.
I have another yard that is suppose to get 2 comets in, but they have been saying they are coming for several weeks. Robert
Robert, i see the back of a '73 model in a 'funny' green color.... like my 4door. what's the story on it?
It is actually tan with a hint of mold. I purchased it 2 years ago and got it running. it was a granny car, got it from the son after his mother died. had been sitting for about 8 years when I got it. has some surface rust and the front lip of the hood it rusted out. I swapped in a new carb and a tune up and it ran....then a few weeks later the tank started leaking. As soon as I get my garage done I am going to spend a little time on it and see if I can't make a daily driver out of it. Robert
If you moved out of state, you no longer have a valid DL or registration(plate) there. Someone may apply for that name now.
But I still own a home and work in Mississippi. I haven't changed my lisence over yet so I still own it. I'll be getting it changed over soon though. I'll post when it's available for anyone interested.
I always hate that. Can't tell you how many door panels I have came across like that. Also... some early-mid 80's Bronco's had rear arm rests that are identical to the early Maverick arm rests. I have got a couple of mint condition sets of black '70-'72 style arm rests out of mid 80's Bronco's. They even have 80's part numbers cast in the back, instead of the '70 part number on all Maverick arm rests. But they are identical. One set is now in Earl Branham's '69.5. Always be sure to check the REAR doors of any of the big 4 door 1970's Ford's. Ford used the '70-'72 Maverick arm rests on the rear doors of a bunch of cars.
th rear arm rests on my 76 4dr look alot like the early style front arm rests. any chance there the same?
Robert, the Pull-A-Part you went to didn't happen to be the one in Knoxville did it? I was just up at that one about a week ago checking out the V8 '72 4 door they have. I saw when I was paying to get in that they had a black small bumpered Maverick in the fenced in area and was planning to go back this weekend and check it out. According to their site, they have another '72 and a '74 on the yard in the past week. It'll save me a trip up there if I know there is nothing good on the cars. I go to the Norcross and Conley, GA yards on a very regular basis (and I see they are building a new yard in Lithonia!!). I make the rounds to the Augusta, GA yard, Birmingham, AL yard and Knoxville yard every month or two, or whenever they have a car listed I want to check out. I put 1,465 miles on my brother's '92 Nissan Sentra in three days just going junk yarding last week. 41 mpg!
Jamie, the 4 door, keck and fastfords got to it , I pulled the v8 pulleys off of it to fix my grabber that had the wrong water pump and pulleys on it. I was there last friday and the rear is gone. The other 72 2 door has a v8 in it but the vin shows it to be a 6cyl, has 4 lug rims and it did have 3 aluminum slotted wheels, the 4th wasnt anywhere around the car. The trans was gone and the engine stands looked to be home made. had buckets in it but they were in bad shape and looked to be out of a pinto. The 74 is a grabber with a dealer installed A/C unit , the controls are on the grill in the center of the dash. It too has buckets that dont look original..the rear is gone and so is the engine and trans. It looked to be a factory 3 speed in the floor, found the factory knob but all the other stuff was gone. this one wasn't on their inventory when I checked the morning I went so it was just put in the yard and must have been stripped before it arrived. Anytime you head this way and want company just hollar...I have time I need to burn and it takes a lot of arm twisting to get me to go. Robert
