well i finally got it on.. right off the bat, id better tell you that i cant really feel a big difference in power.. havent been able to check mpg's cause ive barely driven it.. i had to make a custom bracket for the throttle cable cause i had to pull it to like half throttle just to hook it to the carb, so i unscrewed it from the bracket and made a new one.. you might be able to see it in the pics.. you can see how retarded the pinto aircleaner sits on it, but oh well.. and it doess rub on the hood when the engine torques...
Why not take that lowest plate out from under everything and bolt the adapter straight to the manifold? You can always relocate the vacuum hose somewhere else.
i didnt know you could take off the lowest part with the hoses going into it? and i had to put that spacer in there because the studs that held the old carb on were too long and hit the adapter..
You're fortunate you have a 200 in your car...I just put the same thing on my 250 and there is no way in hell my hood will close, even with the pinto air cleaner...Luckily my local junk yard had a mav with good looking stock hood...So i'm gonna cut that one up and put a scoop on it...And yeah, I noticed a big difference with this carb too...Have fun..
are there any good junk yards down there in el centro the pick ur parts there and around san diego suck got any good mav parts.
Well, I pretty much stripped the maverick that was at the pull your part and there isn't really anything else there..Sorry to hijack the thread mavmanerick
well guys, i got some advice for ya.. dont get a carb from an abandoned car and expect it to run great.. mine ran ok but the throttle was way whack!! it was smooth till it hit the secondary then it got really stiff and sometimes would hang up.. and the aircleaner was hitting the hood hardcore.. well i need to drive the car every day comfortably so i just took it off and put the old one back on.. and since the new carb made little to no power increase i figure **** it.. whatever i do its never gonna be a V8..
Sounds like the secondary wasn't opening up. If it was stiff, motor vacuum probably wasn't enough to tip it open. That would mean that you bolted on another one barrel carb ... . No wonder it didn't feel different. Get that 2 barrel rebuilt before you write it off. Another thought ... Are the carb base and the adapter square? If not, bolting them together might be making the secondaries bind. Or maybe the adapter is interfering with them (bad casting?) Secondary linkage rubbing on something on the motor? Check the carb while it is off the motor and see if it still binds. You might be able to get a drop base air cleaner for it and an adapter to size it down to fit. Is the Pinto air cleaner flange round? If not, cut the bottom out of the one you have and adapt it to a drop base.
The pinto air cleaner flange is not round...It's more like an oval shape...That's the only downside to these Holley/Webber 2bbl's, they're not round on top....
