Hey guys anyone know where this leak is coming from? It's on both sides of timing cover. Not much leaking just what you see. I've already eliminated the thermostat housing. There is two holes in back of timing cover I think it might be coming from there. Thanks for your comments. Joe
The 302 in my Spider has the exact same leak.. I was told it was the intake manifold gasket, but don't take my word for it.
Most 302s I have seen have that leak...comes from the timing cover gasket. I want to say that maybe too much torque to the bolts and maybe the gasket and all the mating parts are relatively off in alignment from one another in that particular spot. Gasket makers may have a roll in this scenerio. I notice mine used to create that puddle also when it was hotter which leads me to think that extreme pressure may be seeping by...
I would still guess thermostat housing. I had to replace the gasket on mine 3 or 4 times before it finally stopped.
ive had that leak a couple of times over the years. as always turned out to be the intake gaskets or the t-stat housing gasket. those aftermarket chrome t-stat housing with the 'o-ring' is notorious for leaking
Dry the area real good and pressure check it... My $ is on the timing cover gasket...t stat is on the other side. I have seen many like I said, the 3.0 is another one that does this. I do agree about the chrome t stat housing, they almost always leak.
Rent a black light and you can trace the coolant leak to its point of origin. Ethylene Glycol flouresces under a black light. (so does engine oil but they are different colors. You can also add dye but it is not necessary.
Well replaced timing cover and water pump gasket and all is well. Sure was alot of work just for gaskets. But no leak, I guess it was worth it.
