Hey, guys. Frankie has a locking gas cap right now. I am debating. I would really like to have a gas cap with the horns on it.
    Couple of questions....

1---Keep the locking one? I don't have a garage to park the car in. Wondering how likely it is that somebody will steal my gas cap or (worse yet) sugar my tank or something crazy like that. Never know, these days.

    OR

2---Change to the one with the horns?
    AND

3---Where can I get one with the horns???

Ebay has lots of gas caps.

Not sure about somebody putting sugar in your tank. ....but stealing your gas could be another thing. The stuff is like liquid gold.

Most people are probably at work. Us "sickies" are here today to chime in.

even though I have relatives up there near you I don't know what the likelyhood of someone stealing your gascap would be, but if the thought crossed your mind then I suppose it is probably a real concern.

As Craig said there are LOTS of Gas Caps on Ebay but if you haven't looked yet let me spare you, and tell you before you do go look that most of the ones with the Maverick Horns are the "deluxe" Gas Caps and they are going for what I think is $$$ TOP DOLLAR $$$$, I mean I do understand that nobody is remanufacturing these things and the ones that are available are the only ones that are left but $45 - $75 for a dang Gas Cap is freaking crazy.

All three of my previous Mavericks had the "deluxe" Gas Caps. Man hindsight is 20/20 if I had only known what they would go for...hahahaha.

There is a little ray of light in this though, there is a "standard" Maverick gas cap that does have the horns on it as well and they are going a little cheaper, from what I have seen they are selling for around $25 - $30.

    This is the "NON-Deluxe" version

Thanks DaMadMan. I had looked on Ebay and I did see that those caps were going for quite the "pretty penny". I guess for now I will stick with what I have. I have bigger fish to fry right now like the choke and the heater issues. I need to quit thinking about the "lipstick and rouge" until the other stuff is squared away-----I guess. I reckon. Possibly. Maybe.....or maybe not????? ;)

For a Daily Driver or a car that is parked on the street I recommend keeping the locking or a crappy one installed. Less likely to dissappear that way .... PLane Jane brand new Ford OEM replacements can be had all the time on eBay for cheap. Keep the nice Long Horn caps stored away for car shows ...

Sabrina; about 4yrs ago, I had a delux cap stolen in the parking lot of the insurance company, while I was in there getting the car insurance done. Those things are unique, and easy to steal. Dan is right, keep a locker, or a plain or worn cap for the streets.

Gotcha. Point well taken. I will never understand how people can do stuff like that without feeling so guilty.

I remember recently there was a Mav for sale on Ebay--I called about it and the seller told me that someone had just stolen the cap off of it the night before--car was sitting right in his front yard. My friend advised me not to leave the hubcaps on it either. Since they are pretty unique and rather old I imagine it would be just a matter of time before some butthead would pry those off, too.

Man, I wish we had a garage. :(

Craig can give more info,,, different year cars use different caps. Emissions is what caused this. All caps will not interchange

Not been hard for me to find but some of the deluxe caps do have the cables that actually bolt under one of the gas neck bolts I know it is not a locking cap but sure helps keep it with the car unless they have something to cut the cable with..

    Just my thought

Sabrina's being a 1975....it should probably have the cap with the two sets of ears on it. Not sure what years get what style of gas caps....but Dave is right...not all caps fit all years. You can make any cap fit any car as long as you have the correct gas tank neck to go along with the cap.

    :drive:
