Hi all, I'm getting my hands on a 71' Mav 2dr , 200 auto thru a trade/barter deal. Its a cool car so I want to keep it. I happen to have a ready to install fresh 400hp SB chevy sitting in my garage that I've been sitting on for 7yrs. Has anyone done a similar swap ? is it possible without cutting? I understand the stock C4 won't bolt up to a 302 anyway thanks

you'll have to build your own motor mountsand tranny crossmember. a friend of mine did one. biggest pain was the distributor at the firewall. he had to cut it out and reshape the firewall. i believe he also installed a mustang ll type front end so he cut the inner fenderwells for the headers.
might want to cancel this thread as you already have another one. only the originator or a mod can cancel.
do it, and I'll find a camaro and slam in a CJ just in spite:evilsmile ah, it's your car, and you have the engine kicking around, that's what makes hotrods in my book, no dot.com-ing everything
C4 does mount to 302's, All day long! I'm sure that a built 400 will bring enough $$ to find a decently built 302(5.0) that will be easier to install, and is a bolt in process.
The SBC is quite a bit wider than the SBF. I am sure you should shave the towers at the very least. However, with the front sump vs rear sump oil pans, you would surely be better off with a Stang 2 suspension swap. I am pretty sure the M2 needs a rear sump pan. If so, then the Chevy should feel right at home. If you kept the Mav front suspension, it calls for a front sump pan, which would need to be custom made for the Chevy engine.
Well I don't condone swapping in a SBC, but if you are, then you'll want the oil pan for a mid 60's Chevy II to accomplish it. The Chevy II had a similar suspension setup to mid size Fords and had the only front sump small block chevy oilpan. You'll likely need to shave the shock towers too, to gain access to the spark plugs.
Can't find a good lookin Chevy body to use, huh. I don't blame you. If I was a Chevy guy I'd be lookin for a great body for my motor too. That's what all the street rodders are doing.
