I was standing outside the local grocery store when lo and behold, rolling down the street comes a snappy diaper brown 4 door comet (With a maverick grill no less!). I'm unsure what year it was. The worst part was the atrocious decay around the fender lips. It was sniffle inducingly bad. It looked like someone had taken a grinder and cut big swooping gashes up the length of the fender flanges. I was conflicted by feelings of joy of seeing one and the horror of seeing it in that condition. Oh, the trials and tribulations of the rust belt. i found myself thanking god I only have minor quarter panel holes to repair. also, I noticed that it had two separate tail lights on each side (Four in total) instead of the only one on each side like my maverick has. Is this normal for comets or is it only a certain year or what?
Diaper brown..... There is a 4 door Maverick that I see a lot in our town that looks pretty bad, too. Paint seems to be the major proble, though. It actually looks like it might be pretty solid. I think it is someone's daily driver. I keep thinking that someday there will be a 4 sale sign on it.
Keep the faith. That's how I got mine. Matter of fact I was on my way home from the optometrist's office when I saw it set out for sale. I got my wife to pull over, jumped out of the car (At the time my pupils were still dilated from the eye test) and wrote down the number. a phone call the next morning and 2 weeks later it was mine. Does it look like the one you see has the factory paint still on and that's the problem or can't you tell?
Well, it looks like the whole thing is flat primer gray with spots of red / rust colored primer on it. The red spotches are not in your typical rust zones like at the bottom of teh quarters. They are more kinda "just where ever" on the hood and fenders. From bondo spots? IDK. You would think that maybe someone might be getting ready to paint it, but it has been that way for a LONG time!
I found a lot of bondo under my paint. could be that. Sounds like a definite project that stalled halfway. Personally, I'd have to do something after awhile, that would drive me nuts! I guess some people have higher tolerances for letting that kind of stuff slide.
I was going around the inner loop Baltimore beltway today and saw a rollback on the outer loop with a cinnamon color Maverick on the bed.
I believe I would haft to go crazy with a sander and some primer. In my mind one solid primer color is better than multicolor.
