Well, apparently sometime in my mavericks life someone thought it was a good idea to duct tape the trunk shut or something..... So now I have that glue/tape gunk on some of my trim and around the bezel of the passenger side tail light. It's on the paint, too but that's getting stripped next year. I'm very paranoid about harming the chrome to get the gunk off. Any suggestions?

Chrome is pretty tough to screw up unless you break out sandpaper on it. I have had luck removing tape gunk with ronsonol lighter fluid (comes it the yellow bottle) or regular minieral spirits.

I actually have a bottle of ronsonol in my living room right now. And goo gone sounds like a good thing to have. Thanks for the help, guys!

Goo gone, diesel fuel, lighter fluid, baby oil, pretty much any petroleum distillate will work. It needs to dissolve the glue without harming the paint. So no paint thinners, carb cleaners, or acetone.

They tend to "repave" our roads around here about once every 2-4 years. "repave" means to spray a layer of a tar-like substance down, then drop gravel on it. Most of the tar ends up on the first 200 cars that drive over it.

Mine is always number 2 or 3 of those 200...

So, I end up taking a paper towel or terry cloth of Zippo fluid on a paper towel or terry cloth and go over the entire bottom half of my car twice a year...

Sometimes, diesel will work well also, if I have some laying around.

They do that here, too except they do it every year and they call it "tarring and chipping" and I usually just get pelted with gravel for about 2 weeks. haven't really had any tar stuck to any of my cars yet, although one day a few years ago the sun-softened tar glued my shoes to the road when I went to get the mail......
