adjust the choke so when you push the pedal to the floor it comes on...

ya its the black plastic piece on the back side of the carb.. just turn it towards the drivers side to get it going.. if all else fails, just sit there for a minute and hold the throttle at around 1500 rpms till it gets warm enough..

well then youll have to get a new choke such as a manual one or do like i have to at the moment and keep pumping the gas and starting until it stays running..

even if your choke works perfect be prepared to spend a few mins letting her warm up in the mornings when its cold out anyway or it will definatly struggle like that. its not good for the engine either.

alot of people over look the warm up in modern cars since the computer will tune the fule and timing so the engine runs normal even when its cold so they dont think they need to warm it up but you still need to wait for the internal to warm up so it lasts longer

Maybe it is time for a carb rebuild. Most likely you have a Carter YF on there. You can get better performance and quicker starts by switching to a Duraspark dizzie if you do not have one.Start checking all possible areas for vacuum leaks. Replace rubber vacuum lines, PCV.Disconnect your fuel line to the carb and pump some gas into a glass jar and check to see the contents. Put a high quality inline filter between the fuel pump and carb.Goto Fordsix if you are not on there already.

You also have points to deal with. First thing I would do is replace them and make sure they are adjusted properly. A better and quicker up grade would be to go with a Pertronix set up. Second I would go after the carb. First, get the choke working, then if it still runs like crap, get it rebuilt.

I agree with Dennis, get rid of the points first and foremost, then rebuild or replace the carb if it's in as bad of shape as it sounds. I would also make sure you don't have any vacuum leaks anywhere, as that will cause the car to run bad, especially at idle.

i really think is the vacume lines cause it runs ok past idle but is horrible at idle even way after warming up.

before you do anything gap your points- 020" your car will run like crap as the point gap starts closing over time.
