I have been rebuiling my 1972 Mav 302 with A/C. Getting ready to start engine re-assembly, but while preparing the engine compartment for paint with a wire brush on a high speed drill I ripped a wire out of the main wire harness. I think I know where it goes I just want to be sure. If you have the same kind of car can you PLEASE do this for me. Look in the drivers side rear corner of the hood. There is a wire harness with about 16 wires in it. On the top row can someone tell me the wire colors on the top row from left to right when standing at the front bumper ? Are there 4 of them on the top row? Do any of them have two wires going into the same slot? I ripped a green one out of what I believe was the second position going left to right when standing at the front bumper. I tried to get the harness disconnected to inspect but it wont easily come loose and I do not want to destroy it. I think once I confirm where it goes I will just solder a plug on it and jam it in the hole. Unless someone knows a trick to release the harness. Thanks in advance.
the plug has a bolt that is in the center of the...fuse box. by unscrewing the bolt you can unplug the harness. after that you are on your own... ...:Handshake...
Once you remove the fuse box.....there are little tabs on the opposite sides inside the plug (inside the car). Squeeze these and this will release it off of the firewall. I think you will need to take it apart. I don't think the "jam it in the hole" method will work.
Check out Mark's site www.maverickcomet.com go to Features and Wiring Diagrams. The schematics should help
standing in front of car. top left wire...green w/blk. stripe next wire...empty hole 3rd. wire...green w/white stripe 4th. wire...white 5th. wire...larger yellow wire this is on a '73 mav... 6cyl...A/C...car. if that might make a diff. i you may be ing, something goes in the...empty hole...if that is the case...you got it fixed . ...Frank...:Handshake
if you remove the fuse block from the firewall be sure you get both tabs snapped back into the firewall when reinstalling it. when i had my 72 apart, i only got one of them snapped into place. it's funny when the fuse block is not connected properly, electrical compents on the car just don't seem to work right.. if the dash is in the car, removing and reinstalling the fuse block is not a lot of fun.
I looked at mine. Mine was exactly like Frank's except: top left wire...green w/blk. stripe next wire...empty hole 3rd. wire...green w/white stripe 4th. wire...white with green stripe 5th. wire...larger yellow wire Mine is a 1972 Grabber, Factory V-8, Factory AC.
Thanks guys I followed your excellent advice. Found the culprit. Was able to find a Chrysler wire pin of the same size and put it in the harness. It was the wire to the right of the empty hole.
Craig, my 4th wire may be ...white with green stripe. i may not have noticed the stripe...i will check tomorrow... ...:Handshake...
