I think the trim you are talking about is stainless steel ... not chromed metal ...

Geeze, you must work at Auto Zone! Why don't you ask what engine and transmission is in the car while you're at it, even though that has nothing to do with the trim. :biglaugh:

ham 1, you do need to be more specific about which piece of trim you are talking about. Most of the trim on our cars is stainless or anodized aluminum. The boomerangs are the only pieces I can think of that are chromed. I do plan to chrome all the trim on my car though, just so it looks nicer and hopefully won't get dull again for a long while.

assuming you are referring to the drip rail moldings and or the stainless trim around the windows (including the flipper windows) i have seen Craig Selvey masterfully removed them with two flat edged screwdrivers. i have had others tell me they removed them with the round end of a bottle opener.

i did as you are doing, removed all the trim (for repainting) had it all chromed and then reinstalled it.

points of interest. make sure you get the trim as smooth as possible before getting it plated. take the extra time because the chrome makes every wrinkle look worse. when installing the trim be careful not to bend it much. the chrome will come lose.
but when it is on, i think it looks real good. Craig had the stainless polished on his 71 and that looks real good as well, besides it was far less expensive. 2 or 3 years from now it may make a difference? oh, 1 more thing, plating the trim makes it more rigid. when installing it i tore up the paint on the doors and drip rail pretty good. while it is under the trim and not visible if you plan on driving the car a lot, rust may become an issue?
