hi i have a mav 73:drive: and it has a problem:16suspect, i hope you can help me solve it... this is really weird, when I try to start the engine sometimes goes fine but other days it just moves the fan(a non electric one I must say) really slow, like if the battery had no charge but its actually at full charge, I though the cables were causing all the trouble so i cleaned them, they look like new but the problem is still there, can someone help me? THX David

    David,
when i had something like that i found that putting a ...ground strap...from a starter bolt to the frame fixed it.(y)

You have a starting problem not ignition. That said, you may have a bad ground cable or are missing a ground somewhere. You should have one to the block from the battery and one from the block to the chassis. Are you positive you have a good battery???If the battery is 100 precent good then its one of the above or your starter is going bad.Check and clean the battery connections at the starter solinoid as well as at the starter and battery posts.a bad/dirty connection will cause your problem as well.Good luck.

The starter solenoid or the starter could be wore out, as well.

Check your battery voltage while cranking the engine. If it is more than 9vdc then your battery is ok. Make sure you have bright shiny lead exposed on the posts and your cable clamps. The solenoid is working or the engine would not turn. There may be an intermittent problem with the points on the engagement coil in your starter. They have to open for the starter to make full torque and turn the engine fast enough to start. Make sure you have a ground cable from the motor to the frame that is just as big as the battery cable. You may have worn out brushes in the starter or sticking in their holders. If you have never rebuilt a Ford starter before then I suggest that you buy a new starter rather than repair it. Most of the "rebuilt" starters are not rebuilt at all but just repaired. You will find old brushes, worn bushings and field coils that are original in most "rebuilt" starters. That is why they are so cheap.
