Just joined and hope to be able to share information. I just purchaseed a 1977 Maverick with a slightly built 302 and automatic tranny. I originally purchased the car to scavenge the engine and tranny to use in my '73 Mustang convertible, but after going through the car, I think I might just keep it for fun. It needs to have the interior re-done, exhaust and a paint job, but otherwise, there is very little rust on this car and it is definitely a solid base for restoring. Are these cars good for restoring as far as an investment? Classic Mustangs are going through the roof, how about Mavericks? Here's a few pics of the potential project..

Hmmm... i hope you restore it to keep it. They are fun!(y) I'm not sure how much of a market there is, though investment wise. As always, the mustangs, chargers, and barracudas, etc. will most likely always be the biggest earners. JMO. you should still restore it, though.

    :Welcome:

So, did the owner feed you a line of bull about it running 12's, too? LOL

These are great cars. Unfortunately, they are not good investments. Most here restore them because we like them. You've came to the right place if you do decide to fix it up! :)

You guys are too funny.....yeah, he fed me the bull about a 12 second car, said you all had called to harrass him about it, LOL, I didn't care about the "ET"...I just wanted the motor and tranny to swap into my 73 Mustang convertible while I rebuild the original 351C 4v.....After being with the car for a few days, I have to admit, it is growing on me so much I think I might just fix'er up a bit. It is actually pretty solid bodywise. The engine sounds tight and strong. Has a racing floor shift, slight cam, Edelbrock intake and carb, Hooker headers, fuel cell and 5 lugs. Think I might just prep for street/strip performance. :thumbs2: My neighbors are curious what's happened to me lately. The cars they have seen me in are Corvette, 911 cabrio, Lotus Turbo Esprit, NSX, 645 cabrio. Now they see 73 Mustang and 77 Maverick, and half of me sticking out from beneath them. I am really liking these cars. :thumbs2: Especially the Maverick because most of the kids around keep asking me "What is it?" I am sooo glad I found this site!....:dance:Now, can anyone recommend a good shop around Miami to help with some work.:thumbs2:

Welcome aboard!!! Yeah, I was one of the harassers :bananaman... he never would reply to me. :)
I'm glad you're deciding to keep it and fix it up.
Granted, it is easy to put more money in a car than you can get out of it but if you do all your own work it can be a decent investment. The values of our cars are increasing due to the fact that the Mustangs have gone ballistic. I keep trying to tell these guys that but some of them don't believe me yet. A simple fact is that I am seeing prices of Mavericks for sale that are double what they were 4-5 years ago. I have bought and sold several Mavericks and lots of parts...haven't lost any money yet. There are several people on this board that have been selling parts...obviously making money. So yes, for the price you got that car, I would say you made a good investment. When you can have fun without losing money how can it be anything BUT a good investment? Good luck with the car and keep us posted on the progress! :)
