Hey everyone, I have a 1970 mav that came stock with the straight six. I want to change the motor out to a 302 v8. Am I gonna need o change my transmission?
I believe 1970 is the one year that you would have to change the bell housing to accept the V8. Also may want to go with the 8,8.8,or 9" rear. The 1970's came with the 7.5 rears. Also want to do a transkit. www.maverickgrabber.com has all the info on the swap. 74Maverick, Thom
Welcome to the board! The engine swap is relatively easy. If you haven't already, use the search feature of the board to find many, many posts about it which list parts needed, etc.. The site 74Maverick listed is an excellent resource as well. Where in central Cal are you? If close enough I would like to maybe meet some day if interested or even help out.... I'm in Sebastopol. I'll talk to you later. If you have any more specific questions about the swap, just post um and we'll help you out. -Corbin
