I just removed a set of the 83-85 GT finned aluminum covers that lacked baffles. Nothing I did would cure the leaks and excessive oil consumption. The caps had the steel wool inside em, even tried baffled grommets. The oil just found it's way around the grommet. Scooper----if you're talking about the Felpro rubber encased steel gaskets----these are only intended to be used with cast aluminum valve covers. I doubt they'd seal with stamped steel covers.
Really, I didn't know that about the gaskets. Well, I have purchased them, and opened the package, and will just have to try them out. If they don't work, I guess i will be buying new gaskets down the road...
that is correct.....I did this to my car probably 4-5 years ago. I did not bother mentioning that to this post originally cause.............. and if you had not mentioned it.....I still wouldn't have!
...i used one of the.....scuff pads for pots and pans...a green one. they come in...green, blue and red...(Effie, just happened to have green). i folded it and made it into a mushroom shape and stuck it into the breather tube. Frank
Excellent idea, I will have to do that. Mine only vents when I really get after it, and well, I really like to get after it.
This goes along with the "High Volume oil pump" question,If you cut the baffles out and run a HV pump,even with steel or "plastic wool"Everytime you twist the motor you will have a big mess under the hood.
Only if you leave the cap off. I just looked at Tammy's and I did pull the baffle out. On her car we have the 82-85 GT covers with spacers to clear the rockers. No baffles and the pan draining HV pump. It does get oil on the covers but not that much (livable)
