got these at a good price for my rebuild. had to get rid of those "soup bowl" dished pistons that come in our cars. the guy i got them from didnt know what they where so of course i dont. problem is that the new rings i bought dont fit in the piston grooves. they are to thick. what rings go with these and what are they? thanks in advance
They may be 1/16th for the top two, or they could even be metric. If you have the brand of piston and even the part number, you can find out exactly what you need, on the web site. I noticed they are std. bore size, is this what you have now? Also are you sure the wrist pin is positioned correctly for your application?
Yep, look for a part number. The waffling under the crown reminds me of a set of cast SilveLites I had years ago.
Dis he give you any info on them? Like, what engine they are for? Is your rebuild NOT going to be bored out at all? Are they Ford pistons?
You can take them to a machine shop (automotive shop) and ask them for a set of rings that fit. They can take the diameter, groove width and depth and match a set of rings to the pistons. They can also measure the comprssion height (the distance from the top of the piston to the center of the pin) and tell you if they are for a stock length rod or not. Usually you will only have to pay for the parts you buy.
I hope your motor is standard bore and doesn't have to be bored out... or you wasted your money He didnt give you any information on the pistons?
They look like silvolites the part # should be on the skirt on the inside there should be a circle with a part # in the middle.I can look them up for you if you get a part#
nope just a good honing and maybe a .005 over ring set. there wasnt enough of a lip to catch your fingernail on
i tryed to use a filler gauge on it. but math is not exactly my specialty. so im thinking 1/16 or metric 1.5mm compression rings. took it to my machinist but the good one wasnt there. so a kid (wannbe machinist) my age told me they were 1/16 but he also said they were not hyper. pistons because they are cast. well that showed me he was full of . i got them on ebay and was told they were 302 hyper. pistons std bore. when i got them in the mail there was a shipping label under mine w/ his address. so i think he bought them and count figure them out either. he just didnt have all you guys. thanks
