Prices seem a little ridiculous? Cheapest I see is $775.00 for an open rear? The rest are over $1,000. I think I'd turn to ebay first.

If you're not too hip on using ebay, you might want to try this site:

    http://www.justrearends.com/

Their prices are lower by about $200 or so than your site above. :D

9" rears are so common, and aftermarket parts are way cheaper than 8", I don't know why anyone willing to spend this kind of money on a rear doesn't have a 9".

You can a get really good 9" chunk for same money or less, 200 bux to change the tubes on a donor housing, and you're done!

    In my case weight savings(y)

    A 9inch robs power and adds 75lbs.
Since I am using an alumin8 chunk and pinion support it is even more.
Add some dutchman axles and ARP everything. That 8 inch will hold up:tiphat:

    Where do you get 75#???
The regular housing is 3# more and the entire chunk is 8# more.

Now if you go all out with HD housing, stock N-case, stock 31 splines, etc... you are looking at close to 30#.
    Still no where near 75#.
All the aftermarket stuff is lighter, and far more options are available for lightweight and aluminum parts vs 8" stuff.
I imagine that aluminum chunk cost as much or better than one of the many 9" aluminum chunks out there.
I am not trying to get into a p'ing match, but the differences aren't that great, except for strength.

Some 9" drum brakes are very heavy, but only because they are much larger. 8" drums will bolt right to a small bearing 9", or better yet you keep them when you use your 8" tubes.
Crown Vic and Exploder discs are even lighter and better.
Versillies discs are very heavy, FWIW.

    Just a heads up.
