Somehow the wires to this thing got caught up in the steering linkage and it came unplugged. I do not know where it plugs into or even what it is! Help. http://www.geocities.com/gsimonic/images/PC240007s.JPG Thanks. Greg
That would be my best guess too. I parted out an early 80's Mustang a few years ago that had a similar part that was a cruise control unit. The Mustang unit was mounted in about the same area but was on the tire side of the fender apron. If so, there would have to be a cable of some type going to the carb.
If not a cruise, It may be a gas, power saver they marketed back then, when your engine vacuum went down from hitting the gas pedal, it would shut off your air conditioner, freeing up more horsepower. What all kinda lines are hooked to it?
Has two vacuum hoses and 6 wires, 4 wires (red, orange, green, and yellow) to one plug and 2 wires (brown and black) to a 2nd plug. One vacuum hose to the manifold and the other hose appears to be a vent hose. This car has been in the family since it was purchased new at the dealership in nor cal. I know that my dad did install a cruise control in the late 70's...maybe this is a remnant of that. I Did not see any connection to the carb.....just this "thing" the hoses and wires..
Could be. My dad did install a cruise control in the late 70's. Never really worked to good. I had unhooked the "inside the car" stuff years ago. Maybe this is part of it. No connection to the carb though.....
looks like the control unit To an after market cruise control, there is an diaphram that is vacum operated that connects to the throttle via cable, or chain (yes chain). The one I ended up with had an input and output from the spedometer cable and it actually worked pretty good, they were made by Dana and you could actually find them on some other brands of cars and trucks (GMC, Jeep) in the 70's
