Well just to let ya'll know. The sheetmetal is off the front, eng. and trans are out, it's on the trailer, and it will be headed to the frame shop on Friday to get the final word. CROSS YA'LLs FINGERS!! Anyone here ever done a mustang 2 crossmember swap?
there are quite a few guys here with a MII front end but you still need to have your frame rails right before you can put it in
I like how you are thinking. Life hands you lemons, make lemonade. Best of luck! If they don't want to tackle it for some reason, I know a GREAT frame guy in Clearwater. My white Comet got whacked by an F600 box truck. Three hours with this guy on his frame machine and the car drove arrow straight ... hands off the wheel at 80 mph. It drove like a brand-new car. That car was junk before that accident. Probably three accidents before I got it. You never let your hands off the wheel at any speed.
Fred, glad to hear you and Dana are well on your way to that light at the end of the tunnel. Wish you the best! Let us know if we can help anytime. Holly & Rocky
Well, made the trip to the frame shop today. They looked, pulled, and the final word was terminal damage. After we got the car up where you could get a good look underneath, the left frame rail is almost 4 inches further back than the right. Then after pulling tape, the entire body is tweaked, their words were, diamond shaped. So I reckon figuring on the safety aspect, we'll be in the market for a good chassis. Dana took the news better than I did. We still have some good parts to move over to a new chassis. Good news is that other than the water pump the motor and trans appear to have survived unscathed! THis time she is talkin must. II frontend, and some other really cool mods. Things we wanted to do, but didn't. And correct some of the goofs we made the first time!
4" is certainly big in frame rail damage. Unless you can cut and splice from a donor, that is certainly a death sentence for one of these cars. The twisting effect on unitized cars can be overwhelming, and in the end be terminal. Keep us posted. Dan
Man, that's a shame. If you are thinking Mustang II front end, are you sure that the back end is trashed? (like rear axle is in the car crooked ...) There are kits for Chevy IIs that are a replacement for everything from the firewall forward that would give you the Mustang II-style suspension. I have always wondered if they could be adapted to Mavs. I think Heidt's and Fat Man offer these. I know it would be a ton of fab work, but maybe not that much more than just the suspension swap.
Sorry to hear that. Though, kind of what I was expecting after experience with my '74. Good luck in the hunt for a new body.
hey fred, there are a few good 2 doors available within a few hours of us. give me a call if you want to get some info or a partner to go check them out.
