Oh yeah, had several do that. First is to tighten up the band so the clutch pack will stay put. I have threaded opposite holes in the pump and then used a bolt to "jack" the pump out. A slide hammer can also be used, or, use a dead blow hammer and beat on the stator support(with the input shaft removed) side to side. Old gasket and corrosion from sitting in the weather will cause this condition.

Threaded what holes in the pump or do you make new holes?

Exsisting holes will work but you will have to use a ball bearing or some sort of plug in the bottom to keep from ruining the threads in the case. gently tighten the jack bolts a little at a time to keep from breaking things. If you get them good and tight and it still will not budge, rapp on the stator support to see if it will pop free. An inexpensive slide hammer is a better way if you can adapt a screwed in bolt to the end of it.

sorry I don't mean to sound dumb but what do you mean by jack bolts? I understand taking to bolts and placing them in the threaded holes that hold the Bell housing in place. Then I am lost after that.

Whoa, Careful here before beating gently on anything! What you need to do is take a piece of 3/16 to 1/4 inch flat steel about an inch or inch and a quarter wide, put a gentle bend in the steel about 3 inches fom one end using a vice, then tap the pump assembly from the back side and it should come out with out breaking anything. This is assuming you have removed all the pump bolts. DON'T be banging on the stator support or you will very likely be shopping fo a new one!!

The front pump can be easily pried out using a pry bar between the back drum and the planetary. That will pry the entire gear train forward pushing the pump out of it's cavity. I do not recommend that you tap the holes inthe pump for jacking because there is a threaded hole under that hole in the pump that you can easily damage - don't do it. Hitting that piece of cast iron with a metal punch to remove it can crack the stator support - don't do it.
The Ford teck book and the Haynes Tech book on Ford transmissions will both tell you to pry the entire assembly forward to remove the pump . It is the safe way to get the pump out.
