I have never raced on the street. My car SOUNDS good. But I doubt it is fast.

So when some yayhoo pulls up beside me and wants to race, I rev it a couple a times to egg him on, then when he takes off, I put it in D and just putt away all slow like...:D

Well the latest government boner for Canada is the ban of leaded fuels for racing purposes.Racing uses 1.9% of all the leaded fuels Aviation industry that has a indefinate paron uses 98.1%.What all this means is Canadian dragstrips will most likely loose all National events because Nitromethane and the such is a leaded fuel.I have talked with Toronto Motorsporst park track owner and he feels if they loose the National event most likely the track will close. If that is the case street racing will be back on in full force.Street racing is almost unheard of in my area right now but without the track 40 minutes away i can see lots of Midnight drags in the future

the closest track to my house is like 20 miles away and cost like $35 to get in

sometimes im not suprised when 2 kids leaving the school parking lot or cruising down main street decide to race one another. the here and now, tho stupider is still alot funner then paying $35 to settle your gruge next weekend.

not that that is something i do

A few years ago a 2.23 mile road course was built here in southwest Iowa with 15 turns and a front straight that is 2222 feet long, so on fri.and sat. nights they started to street race on the main straight. $5 to get into the pits and you just pick your race and get in line to race. The race was started by flagman, run the 1/4 slow down drive the road course back to pits and pick another race. They now have built a 1/8 mile strip next to the main straight and the street racing is going great. They have rules for the weekend street racers to keep it safe. Mid-America Motorplex just south of Omaha-Council Bluffs.

So it turns out the people were standing in the street, watching burn outs. At 3 AM with no street lights...I guess there isn't a bigger car on the road to plow into a crowd with, the ones that lived are lucky a tractor trailer didn't come along.

If you read on, a semi DID come along and nail somebody trying to get away from the initial wreck.

John, My angle on this may not be right for some ...but I figured Hey if he wants to race he is going to do it no matter how much preaching I do at him about how he Better not. SO this is how I handled it and in my situation it worked great.

I made my boy a deal before he was old enough to drive,"If you don`t race on the street , I`ll PAY for you to race at the track Any time you want to go." On top of that I always would point out the risks of street racing(without preaching to him) like Insurance cancels,Loss of license, Wrecks, fatalities, living with hurting an inocent bystander or passenger ect.
Also `Id tell him that in a street race there are always excuses or lies the next day at school over who REALLY won. BUT at the track you have proof because of time slips so there is NO desputing the real winner.

When the guys at school would invite (or challenge) him to street race

He would just say"'Just tell me what friday night you want to race me, and I`ll meet you at the track and race you as many times as you like. If you beat me You can bring a timeslip to school and Proove to everybody that you won!" (No takers):D

As a result My son (Sonny) and I along with some of our friends have had alot of really Fun times at the strip racing our cars.:drive::drive:
