Has anyone heard of a Clarke 130 Mig welder. It comes with the gas regulator, tweako (sp) gun (it not hot till you pull the trigger), a welding cart, full helmet (not a biggie). I am wondering how this compares to the Hobart welder which I like very much. The welder, cart and all is on sale locally for $299. It is normally $399. I think its a good deal but I value the opinions on this board..

    Thanks
    JP

    Looks good

    I it this one? http://store.ineedparts.com/store/viewitem.asp?idProduct=19007
If so its well worth $299. However it says Tweco style which just means its like a Tweco I think . How do you know its not hot all the time? If thats the case go for it. The Hobart is hot all the time Right? My Campbell Hausfield is hot and thats the only thing I dont like about it:D

Yep, thats the one. On the box it says that it is a tweco gun that is not hot till trigger is pulled. No, the Hobarts that I have been using are not hot either. I think I am going to pick it up this weekend. Is anyone out there using this one now? Thanks for the input My Comet GT. I dont know a lot about the welders and any info is helpful.

i would consider trying to find a welder that has more than just four heat settings on it jpollard....my lincoln sp-100 has 10 settings that are tweekable. has a reostat instead of a switch. is very helpfull for welding old steel. with four settings you will have problems burning thru the sheetmetal

True....but for the money, I dont think I can pass this one up. The 4 settings is the only thing about this welder that I dont like. Is it possible to change this out at a later time?

Tweco is a brand name for mig guns and very good one at that. The only suggestion I ever give for buying welders is buy the biggest you can afford, because there will always be that one thing that's thick that need to be fixed. :D

Well, this is the biggest I can afford! :( But, I do have an arc welder for the big stuff. I think between the 2 I will about have it covered. Now I will need to get some metal cutting hardware.

My old Lincoln weld pac had only 4 settings and I never had a problem. It just makes you a better welder once you learn how to use it.

Well, i bought the welder (Clarke 130). I have only run a few beads with it but so far I am very impressed with it. Havent had a chance to hook the gas up to it but so far I think I can recommend this welder, especially for the price. The only thing that may cause me some irritation is the leads, they are only 6ft long. Gotta go...lots of metal to melt!

    Thanks for the input guys.

    Cool

Hey Glad you like it. I think all the small migs have only 6ft leads. Is it hot all the time or only when you pull the trigger?Thats the only beef I have with mine:( If you like it with the flux core you will love it with the gas.

Its only hot when you pull the trigger...its a feature I HAD to have. Would not have bought it without. I have heard to many people complain about this.

I hope to get the gas connected next payday......cant wait much longer!

I guess I will have to live with the leads. :D

The more I play with it, the more I like it. I am welding 1/4 in steel pretty easily. Have to pre-heat it a little, then weld away. I dont plan on using it for that thick of metal but had to try it. I have the stick welder for the thick stuff.

    ....I like it!
