Has anyone ever successfully tinted a clear tail light lense red? I have Bobcat tail lights and need to tint the clear back up lense red to match the rest of the tail light. I am using 65 Mustang back up lights on the valance so I won't be needing the original back up light. I'm going to add another 1157 bulb where the back up light was and am working on getting the Bobcat inner reflectors operational as tail lights also. Then I want to get the 3 bulbs to work like a Cougar tail light. Any ideas on the red tint?
A little red paint diluted severely with clear coat, plus a lot of wet sanding? Here's an idea: http://www.thirdgen.org/techboard/camaros/451292-tail-light-amber-delete.html
Used Maverick/ Pinto tail light lenses are cheap. You may even have an extra set. I would carefully cut the red brake lens from one set and use it with some good plastic adhesive to replace the clear back up lens. The altered area would be easy enough to hide behind the bezel. This way it will look the same when the light is on or off
Giving this some thinking, since I ran the original post, I have come to that very same conclusion. I was thinking, that no matter what I use or how I tint the clear lense to red, it will never match the intensity of the original red lense. Making them sequential, I can see it how it would blink now: "RED" - "KINDA SMEARED PINK LOOKING THINGY" - "RED". I've got the extra lenses and have come to my senses.
most auto parts stores sell red see thru lens paper for repairing cracked lens !!!! thats what I have on mine for almost 4 years and it still looks good !!!!! hope that helps. look at my avatar under my handle. disasemble and cover the whole reverse light portion of the lens. theirs also a red lens paint sold in aeroesole cans, good luck. -mel-
