Im kinda in a dilema here. Can this really make that much difference. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1970...215237373QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item150215237373
Probably not. But this one is easy to find and is AT HAND right now, if you cannot find one for a V8 swap.
If you have a stock belly bar you won't get anything from a different one. The stock unit is made from 2+" round tube in one piece and it won't flex as much as one from 1 x 2 inch square tube. He's making them so of course he is going to tell you they are better.
have any of you guys noticed anything with not running one at all? alo of v8 swap posts lists that part as "optional" lol
Not running a belly bar with a V-8 will cause the front end to spread over time from the bottom out. Think of how much money Ford would have saved if they didn't need to put it in there. If it wasn't needed they wouldn't have put it in there.
I did the V8 conversion in my 70 34 years ago and have never had a belly bar on. Never has been a problem, the shock towers have never changed location. Easy to tell 'cause the headers still slide in easily. I bought a bar a few years ago 'cause I found it cheap, might put it on some day just for the heck of it.
I agree with PaulS if you have access to a belly bar at a reasonable price then get one. I hate to say it, the possible problems associated with having one are far cheaper then the possible problems you could end up with not having one......Good example is even though the chords are showing on that tire it might last another 500 miles, but then again you might not even be able to make it to the end of your driveway. What work for some people can absoutley fail for others.
A buddy of mine had a backhalved `65 mustang with a cleveland in it. When running the Tubular Automotive swap headers (same ones used for cleveland Mavericks) you have to Remove the belly bar to gain clearance for the two tubes that criss vross benieth the engine. The 2 cleveland (no belly bars)mavs I ve seen had NO front end troubles at all. Also My buddies mustang ran Mid 9`s in the quarter and was street driven with No troubles... and it used to break the 60` beams with he rear tires most of the time.
